The UP Center for Women and Gender Studies, in partnership with DKT Philippines Foundation, is expanding access to reproductive health services through a free no-scalpel vasectomy initiative that promotes informed family planning and shared responsibility in reproductive decision-making.
A University of the Philippines office is offering free vasectomy services on June 9, giving men an opportunity to access a permanent form of birth control at no cost.
The UP Center for Women and Gender Studies (CWGS) announced that it will provide free no-scalpel vasectomy procedures for participants aged 21 and above in partnership with family planning organization DKT Philippines Foundation.
The procedure will be conducted at the UP CWGS building inside the UP Diliman campus in Quezon City. Only 15 participants will be accommodated.
Interested individuals may register through bit.ly/FREENSV. Slots will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
A no-scalpel vasectomy is a permanent contraceptive procedure designed for men who no longer wish to have biological children. Compared with a traditional vasectomy, the procedure is considered less invasive because it does not require surgical incisions. Instead, a small puncture is made in the skin to access the vas deferens, the tube that carries s***m from the testicles.
Because the procedure involves a smaller opening, recovery is generally quicker than with conventional vasectomy methods.
Following a vasectomy, men can still ej*****te and produce semen. However, the semen will no longer contain s***m, preventing pregnancy.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to expand access to family planning services and increase awareness of reproductive health options for men, an area often overshadowed by contraceptive methods designed for women.
