Have you received a hooking, incredibly flattering email lately from a "book club" praising your latest release? Before you engage, take a closer look.
A Book Club Scam is making the rounds, targeting authors and publishers. They read your social media, quote your reviews, and make themselves seem like a legitimate group. But once you say yes to their invitations—whether it be a promotion, an award, or a marketing strategy—they will start asking you for fees or freebies.
Real book clubs want to read your book. They don't charge you for the privilege, and they don't hand out promotions for cash.
See our quick guide on how to spot these publishing pirates! Have you seen an email like this in your inbox lately? Let’s warn each other in the comments below.

Warmest congratulations to Bikolnon poet and filmmaker Kristian Sendon Cordero, selected as a fellow for the Akademie Schloss Solitude Fellowship in Stuttgart, Germany, for 2027!
Out of 5,000 applicants from 120 countries, Kristian stands as the first Bicolano named a fellow in textual practice for literature and language. The nine-month residency will bring together artists, cultural professionals, and scholars from across the globe, and Kristian carries with him not just his own work but the imagination of an entire region. Cheers to this valuable milestone and recognition!

Sometimes, the most meaningful opportunities are the ones that remind us why we do what we do.
The National Book Development Board extends its heartfelt thanks to one of our delegates, Patricia Ramos, whose participation in the Asian Festival of Children’s Content became a valuable learning experience. From insightful discussions to productive conversations with fellow creators from across the region, the festival offered countless opportunities to gain new perspectives on children’s literature.
To our writers, illustrators and publishers, we encourage you to explore the grants and programs offered by the NBDB! One opportunity can open doors to new experiences.

To write is to claim space.
Philippine literature has always been a landscape of resistance, and our q***r writers have long turned marginalized truths into foundational texts.
This Pride Month, we honor the voices that refuse to be erased, the stories that challenge the status quo, and the pages that give us the freedom to show our real selves.
Let’s continue to shape the nation's narrative. To write. To read.
With PRIDE.
