Congratulations to Dr. Lew Andrew Tria, Engr. Ramon Florentino Santos, and Engr. Belle Sermeno from the UP Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute, UPD College of Engineering on their registered Utility Model from IPOPHL for the Modular Stator Segmented Rotor Switched Reluctance Motor technology.
This introduction of modularity to the conventional SRM can not only increase the fault tolerance of electric motors but will also increase their flexibility in terms of being able to change the output behavior of the machine without replacing the entire motor outright.
Please feel free to contact our office at [email protected] for any inquiries about this technology.

We thank all researches and faculty for their participation in Day 2 of the Patent Search Workshop, held on Monday, March 23!
The session featured two engaging lectures: Allyssa Pelaco of TTBDO presented essential patent search tips and strategies, along with a concise overview of disclosure forms. Engr. Roi Vincent C. Perez of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) provided a comprehensive lecture on patent search reports.
In the afternoon, participants then applied their learning in a hands-on workshop, culminating in the presentation of their final outputs and awarding of certificates. The program concluded with closing remarks from OVCRD Vice Chancellor Carl Michael F. Odulio.
We extend our gratitude for the valuable insights and feedback shared by IPOPHL experts Joyce V. Nodado and Engr. Krystel Monica P. Manalo, which greatly enriched the workshop.

๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐, ๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐ง โ The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) kicked off its annual Patent Search Workshop on Monday, drawing over 30 engaged participants from various colleges and research teams in Diliman. The event, held at the UP Institute for Small-Scale Industries (UP ISSI), marked the first of a two-part workshop aimed at equipping attendees with the necessary tools and knowledge to protect their innovations.
The opening session set a promising tone, with Director Magdaleno Vasquez, Jr. of UPD TTBDO delivering an inspiring welcome address. Dir. Vasquez, Jr. highlighted the importance of patent searches in the research ecosystem, encouraging participants to consider intellectual property not just as a legal formality, but especially as a vital asset that fuels innovation and protects scientific work.
The first lecture, led by Ponciano Puse, TTBDO's own Technology Transfer Officer, provided an accessible primer on patents, patent documents, and the vast landscape of IP rights. The session emphasized the practicalities of patent information, helping participants understand the intricacies of patents to secure their research outputs.
Participants were then treated to a deep dive into the finer points of patent searching by Ms. Joyce Nodado, an IP Rights Specialist from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). Ms. Nodadoโs session โKeywords & Patent Jargonsโ helped participants navigate the often-complicated terminology and classification systems that come with patent searches. Her lecture shed light on how to effectively identify keywords and avoid common pitfalls in the patent search process.
Jairo Pasion Reyes from TTBDO followed with an engaging demonstration on the various patent search tools and databases available to researchers. Reyes' practical approach gave attendees the confidence to begin their own patent searches.
With support from experts like Engr. Krystel Monica Manalo from IPOPHL, the TTBDO Director and officers, participants raised questions and exchanged ideas, making the workshop both a learning experience and a networking opportunity.
As the event continues next week, the momentum will carry into Day 2 on March 23, where participants will present their outputs from the hands-on workshop and receive well-deserved certificates for their active participation and completion.
Note: This workshop is for registered participants only.
