CRIME DOWN, SOLUTIONS UP: PNP LOGS STRONG GAINS IN PUBLIC SAFETY
The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of Chief PNP, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., reported a continued decline in national crime statistics, with focus crimes dropping 3.94% from December 2025 to January 2026. This accomplishment reflects the PNP’s commitment to its Focused Agenda, reinforced through Enhanced Managing Police Operations across the nation, in support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision for a safer Philippines.
From 2,687 cases in December 2025, focus crimes fell to 2,581 in January 2026, marking 106 fewer incidents nationwide. Key reductions were seen in murder, dropping from 319 to 284 cases; physical injury, from 427 to 299; r**e, from 516 to 400; and motorcycle carnapping, from 162 to 149. Notably, most regions contributed to this positive trend, with the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO 1) achieving a remarkable 31.03% reduction in focus crimes.
In terms of case resolution, 14 regions successfully reduced crime volumes in January, contributing to a national Crime Clearance Efficiency of 93.22% and a Solution Efficiency of 70.24%. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) led the way, ranking highest in both crime reduction and overall case-solving performance.
“These numbers show that mas mababa ang krimen at mas marami ang nalulutas na kaso. Ibig sabihin, gumagana ang ating pinaigting na operasyon at koordinasyon sa komunidad,” said Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez. “Patuloy nating palalakasin ang police presence at investigative efforts para masigurong may hustisya at kapanatagan ang bawat Pilipino.”
The PNP also reported strong performance in solving serious offenses. Murder cases achieved an 80.99% clearance rate and a 46.83% solution rate, while physical injury cases recorded a 95.99% clearance rate and a 79.26% solution rate. R**e investigations reached a 94.00% clearance rate, with 24 cases still pending. Theft cases showed impressive results with a 97.13% clearance rate and an 86.12% solution rate.
Kidnapping and cybercrime cases also received focused attention. Seven kidnapping cases were solved with an 85.71% efficiency rate, while cybercrime investigations recorded a 66.55% clearance rate and a 55.75% solution rate as authorities continue to strengthen digital security measures.
He added, “Every solved case represents a family that has found closure and a community made safer. Ngunit hindi po kami titigil; tuloy-tuloy ang ating laban sa krimen sa buong bansa.”
These accomplishments highlight the PNP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement and maintain public trust. As the PNP moves forward, it remains committed to delivering Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.
