The University Library mourns the passing of Mrs. Maxima “Emy” L. Elagio, former Head Librarian of the School of Statistics.

Ma’am Emy joined the University Library in 1966, where she served in various capacities in the Cataloging, Indexing, and Acquisitions Sections. She later became a part-time librarian at the former Institute of Library Science, now the School of Library and Information Studies, before taking on leadership roles as Head of the Indexing Section and later, the Cataloging Section. In 1998, she was designated as Head Librarian of the Statistical Center, now the School of Statistics, marking another milestone in her long and dedicated service to the University.

During her retirement in 2007, Ma’am Emy graciously paid tribute to her former mentors, recalling the words of the late Ms. Marina G. Dayrit, former University Librarian, on “the art of servicing students with a smile.”

Her heartfelt advice to the younger generation of librarians, “to love your work,” remains a timeless reminder that dedication and genuine passion for the profession are at the heart of meaningful service.

We honor Ma’am Emy for her 41 years of dedicated service, unwavering commitment, and invaluable contributions to the university. She will be remembered with gratitude and respect for the legacy she leaves behind.

The University Library, through the joint efforts of the Special Collections Section and the Information Technology Division, assisted Dean Jacek in preparing facsimiles of rare vernacular Bibles from its collection for display at the newly opened Visitor Center and Museum of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Quezon City.

The Museum will open to the public for free starting 9 November 2026, offering visitors an opportunity to explore these historical materials and learn more about their significance.
