COMMUNITECH 2.0 Goes to San Jose, Romblon
The Romblon State University – College of Computing, Multimedia Arts and Digital Innovation, in partnership with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), brings COMMUNITECH 2.0 to the Municipality of San Jose, Romblon.
Since 2023, COMMUNITECH has served as the college’s banner extension program, bringing relevant digital knowledge and skills closer to communities across the province. Anchored on the goal of strengthening digital resilience among marginalized communities, the program continues to create opportunities for people to become more informed, capable, and responsible digital citizens.
This year, Project 1 – Project CARES (Community Advancement and Resilience through Engagement Solutions in the Digital Age) focuses on two key areas designed for two different communities in San Jose, Romblon.
Smart Parenting and Responsible Digital Citizenship
The first component was conducted on September 8, 2026, at D and L Hotel, focusing on Smart Parenting and Responsible Digital Citizenship for parents who are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
Thirty (30) participants took part in the engagement session, which was facilitated by faculty members of CCMADI. The session provided timely and relevant insights on navigating the digital environment, particularly in guiding children toward safe, responsible, and meaningful technology use.
The lectures were delivered by Mr. John Joseph Aguila and Dr. Cyril F. Faeldan, both faculty members of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program.
Empowering Young Digital Creators
The second component focused on providing practical knowledge and hands-on skills in Graphic Design and Video Editing to Junior High School students of Pinamihagan National High School. Conducted from September 9–10, 2026, the workshop brought together students from diverse backgrounds who shared a common enthusiasm for learning and creating in the fast-paced digital world.
Through this initiative, young learners were empowered to explore digital creativity, develop practical multimedia skills, and discover new ways to express ideas and communicate through technology.
With the strong support of the school administration under Mr. Salvador I. Casimero, Head Teacher V of Pinamihagan National High School, the training was successfully conducted. The participants received a comprehensive lecture and hands-on guidance from Mr. Ralph Lester Gadon, a lecturer from the Bachelor of Multimedia Arts (BMMA) department.
A total of 40 participants successfully completed the workshop, equipped with new skills and ready to create, communicate, and engage in the digital world.
To measure learning outcomes and ensure the effectiveness of the interventions, pre-tests and post-tests were administered across the sessions. A monitoring and evaluation process will also be undertaken to assess the project’s impact and support its sustainability.
The success of this meaningful endeavor was made possible through the collaborative efforts of RSU-CCMADI, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Local Government Unit of San Jose, Romblon, and Pinamihagan National High School.
As COMMUNITECH 2.0 continues its journey, CCMADI remains committed to bringing digital empowerment closer to communities. The program will continue with its remaining projects focusing on Multimedia Skills, Networking, and Hardware Maintenance, further expanding opportunities for communities to learn, adapt, and thrive in the digital age.
