Before there was a Philippines, there was Kapwa.
Kapwa is a pre-colonial Filipino concept that has no direct translation in English. The closest is: the self that is shared with others. It is the recognition that you and the person beside you are not separate — that your identity includes them.
It is the root of bayanihan. It is why Filipinos feed strangers. It is why an OFW sends everything home. It is why a Filipino community in California shows up when one of their own is in trouble.
Colonization tried to replace it. It is still here.

Every Life Matters

Every man, woman, and child bears the spark of being,
a light that must never fade.

No life is insignificant, no spirit unworthy
of dignity, freedom, and compassion.

To defend these rights is to defend the very essence of humanity,
