š‹šŽšŽšŠ: On this day, 10 March 2026, the CGDNWLZN through MEP-ERG NWLZN, successfully conducted a three-day Oil Spill Awareness and Emergency Response Training for 35 personnel of the Coast Guard District Northwestern Luzon (CGDNWLZN).

The activity aimed to strengthen the participants’ capabilities in preventing, containing, and cleaning up marine pollution to safeguard the marine environment, local livelihoods, and public health. The training also ensures that responders are prepared to execute quick, coordinated, and effective actions during oil spill incidents.

Throughout the three-day session, participants were trained on essential principles and procedures, including incident assessment, containment strategies, recovery operations, waste management, and shoreline cleanup techniques. The program combined lectures and hands-on activities to reinforce practical skills necessary for real-world emergency response.

The conduct of this training underscores the Coast Guard’s commitment to enhancing operational readiness and promoting marine environmental protection across the region.

In case you missed it! MEPERG-NWLZN-Pawikan Hatchling Release 🐢🌊

From 01 January 2026 up to present, MEPERG-NWLZN, through the personnel of its MEPERUs, successfully conducted the releasing and turn-over of sea turtle (pawikan) hatchlings in coordination with partner agencies and stakeholders.

A total of 1,416 pawikan hatchlings, mainly Olive Ridley sea turtles, were safely released back to their natural habitat. This accomplishment highlights the continued commitment of the Marine Environmental Protection - North Western Luzon, Coast Guard District North Western Luzon and its partner agencies in protecting marine wildlife and promoting environmental sustainability.

Through collaborative efforts with various government agencies, organizations, and coastal communities, this initiative supports the conservation of endangered marine species and strengthens awareness on the importance of protecting our marine ecosystems.

In the spirit of Bayanihan and humanitarian service, ASN Dane Abner R Garcia PCG and ASN John Carlo G Saraza PCG, MEPERG-NWLZN personnel together with CGDNWLZN personnel, OPCON units and other uniformed services, actively assisted in the unloading of Family Food Packs at the DSWD Regional Warehouse, Biday, City of San Fernando, La Union.

This joint effort strengthens inter-agency collaboration and highlights our unwavering commitment to supporting disaster response operations and ensuring timely delivery of aid to communities in need.

In the spirit of public service and humanitarian advocacy, LTJG JHEMMA V SOTELO PCG, Acting Commander, MEPERG-NWLZN together with CGDNWLZN personnel and its other OPCON units, actively participated in the Blood Donation Activity held at SM La Union, City of San Fernando, La Union.

This meaningful activity was organized by the Bureau of Fire Protection Region 1 and the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center, promoting volunteerism, compassion, and community partnership among uniformed services and local stakeholders.

Shared Commitment to Environmental Protection and Preservation!

MEPERG-NWLZN personnel, together with with the Operational Control Units of CGDNWLZN, Coast Guard Station La Union, the Philippine Navy, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the Dalumpinas Oeste Eco Rangers, and the Union Christian College Graduate School, participated in a joint coastal clean-up activity along the shoreline of Brgy. Dalumpinas Oeste, City of San Fernando, La Union.

This initiative was organized by the Union Christian College Graduate School, in collaboration with the Dalumpinas Oeste Eco Rangers (DOERS), with the theme: ā€œEach Piece Collected, A Future Protected.ā€ The activity reflects the shared commitment of all stakeholders to environmental preservation and marine protection.

The Deployable Response Group of MEPERG-NWLZN, in collaboration with personnel from the Coast Guard District Northwestern Luzon (CGDNWLZN) and other operational control units, actively provided assistance operations within their respective areas of responsibility in response to the effects of Tropical Storm UWAN.

These efforts were carried out as part of the Coast Guard’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of communities affected by adverse weather conditions. The team provided on-ground support, closely monitored coastal areas, and coordinated with local government units to address the immediate needs of residents and mitigate potential risks during onslaught of Typhoon UWAN.

Through the dedication and teamwork of all involved personnel, the operation demonstrated the unwavering readiness and cooperation of Coast Guard units under MEPERG-NWLZN and CGDNWLZN in fulfilling their mission of service, safety, and humanitarian response during times of calamity.

🌊🌱 United for a Cleaner and Greener Coast! 🌱🌊

On or about 25 October 2025, MEPERU–Ilocos Sur together with CGS–Ilocos Sur, and MARSLEU–Ilocos Sur joined hands with the San Juan Teachers and Employees Multi-purpose Cooperative and Barangay Officials of Surngit, San Juan, Ilocos Sur in conducting a Coastal Clean-up and Mangrove Planting Activity under Task Force Ingat Yamang Dagat.

This initiative, led by the San Juan Teachers and Employees Multi-purpose Cooperative of San Juan as part of their third quarterly activity and community relations program, highlights the power of collaboration in protecting our marine environment.
