𝑰𝑵 𝑷𝑯𝑶𝑻𝑶𝑺 | Members of the Ramot Indigenous People Farmers Association completed yesterday, August 29, the fertilizer application required in their coffee plantation in Brgy. Ramot, Santol, La Union – showcasing their commitment in growing the seedlings awarded to their association in 2025.
The timely application of fertilizer ensures optimal nutrient management for the young coffee plants, promoting healthy root establishment and maximizing potential crop yield in the coming seasons.
By actively nurturing the assets provided by the Department of Agriculture’s Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran para sa Kababayanihang Katutubo (4K) Program, the association continues to build a sustainable farming enterprise that honours their ancestral domain while contributing to the region's expanding coffee industry.

Members of the Tubaday Indigenous Peoples Organization (IPO) carried out a collective farm maintenance activity in their coffee production area in Santol, La Union, on August 22, 2026. This activity reflects their continued commitment to sustaining the 1,000 coffee seedlings the IPO received last year from the Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Program.

The group cleared overgrown shrubs and unwanted vegetation from around the coffee plants, improving sunlight exposure and airflow throughout the plantation.

The activity highlights the importance of proper plantation management practices among coffee growers. Regular clearing and maintenance reduce competition between coffee plants and surrounding vegetation for nutrients, sunlight, and space, creating more favorable conditions for the long-term sustainability of the farm.

With the continued dedication of its members, the Tubaday IPO demonstrates the value of collective action and community participation in advancing agricultural development.

Ang mga katutubo ay may karapatan sa tuloy-tuloy na kabuhayan at kaunlaran. Sa aking isinusulong na Senate Bill No. 2258 o Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Act, ginagawang regular na programa ng Department of Agriculture ang suporta para sa kanila. Hindi na ito pansamantala kundi permanente na sa institusyon, kasama ang produksyon, makinarya, pautang, crop insurance, at pagsasanay na nakaugat sa kanilang kultura at lupang ninuno.

Ang 4K Program ay nakabatay sa apat na haligi ng social protection, produksyon at kabuhayan, negosyo at marketing, at mga programang nakatuon sa kasarian, kultura, at pagkakaiba-iba. Itatatag din ang 4K Advisory Council na pamumunuan ng Department of Agriculture at NCIP, katuwang ang iba’t ibang ahensya, upang masigurong naipapatupad ang mga programa.

Ito ay pagkilala sa ating mga katutubo bilang mahalagang katuwang sa pambansang kaunlaran. Ang kanilang kaalaman at kultura ay pundasyon ng mas inklusibong kinabukasan na sabay nating itinataguyod.

𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗭𝗢𝗡 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬, 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟭𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 – The Department of Agriculture's Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Program recognized 4K Ilocos Region with the Gawad ng Kaunlaran: First Quarter CY2026 Marketing and Enterprise Champion award during the program's awarding ceremony held in Quezon City.

The prestigious recognition was conferred by Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Operations Engr. Roger V. Navarro together with 4K Program Director Gilbert V. Baltazar, honoring the region's outstanding performance in advancing the Marketing Component of the 4K Program.

The award recognizes the region's excellence in promoting and supporting community enterprises, empowering Indigenous Peoples (IPs) through sustainable market linkages and livelihood development. It highlights the region's commitment to strengthening indigenous community enterprises, expanding market opportunities, and creating sustainable economic growth for its partner communities.

Representing the Ilocos Region during the awarding ceremony were 4K Regional Focal Mx. Jerold E. Cabang and 4K Associate Project Evaluation Officer Chrismyn C. Halog, who proudly received the award on behalf of the regional team.

The recognition reflects the efforts of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office I, partner stakeholders, Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs), and community organizations in implementing impactful marketing initiatives that improve livelihoods and promote inclusive rural development.

This national recognition further motivates the 4K Ilocos Region team to continue advancing innovative marketing strategies, enterprise development initiatives, and stronger market partnerships in support of the program's goal of improving the economic well-being of IPs and their communities.
