INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY 2026 ☕️

Every cup of coffee begins with a farmer.

This International Coffee Day, we celebrate the hands that plant, nurture, and harvest—and our dream to make Agusan del Sur a major source of some of the best coffee in the Philippines.

We continue to push for science-based agriculture, better soil testing, stronger farmer support, improved processing, and better access to markets. Because producing great coffee is not enough. The farmer who grows it must also prosper, their lives improved as much as their harvests.

Agusan del Sur has the land, the science, and most importantly, hardworking farmers ready to make this dream happen.

Buy local coffee. Support our growers. Help us build an industry where farming provides better incomes, stronger communities, and a future our young people will want to be part of.

Someday, when people speak of the finest Philippine coffee, we want them to speak of Agusan del Sur—and the farmers who made it possible.

☕🌱 Grow coffee. Support our farmers. Build their future.

CONG PLAZA, CONG BASCUG MOBILIZE PLENARY SUPPORT FOR EXPANDED DA 2027 BUDGET 🌱🇵🇭

As Congress deliberated on the national budget for food security, Cong Eddiebong Plaza, Dr.Agr. and Cong Alfel Bascug strongly asserted that a leaner budget for the agricultural sector risks putting long-term productivity at a standstill.

Cong Plaza and Cong Bascug led the collegial call at the Plenary Budget Deliberations that the DA deserves better budget than what is currently proposed under the NEP.

Cong Plaza articulated that agricultural modernization requires a robust funding increase for the Department of Agriculture, most notably for the Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) and the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM).

Elevating the capabilities of DA-BAR will accelerate technological innovations for our local crops, while fully funding DA-BSWM is critical to constructing more soil testing laboratories manned by competent personnel and securing long-term irrigation networks against climate adversities.

Healthy soil. Better science. Stronger agriculture. A more food-secure Philippines. 🌾🔬🇵🇭

BUILDING A NATIONAL SOIL STRATEGY THROUGH SCIENCE AND COLLABORATION. 🌱🇵🇭

Cong Eddiebong Plaza, Dr.Agr., facilitated a historic convergence of the Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and our State Universities and Colleges (SUCs)—to advance a SUC-anchored national soil strategy.

By bringing together first the DOST, and now the DA with our scientists, researchers, universities, and agriculture experts, we are building a stronger national framework for soil testing, research, innovation, and science-based recommendations for the Filipino farmers.

Our SUCs are uniquely positioned to bring soil science closer to the farms and communities they serve ensuring that soil knowledge is nurtured, developed and applied in the field.

Healthy soil. Better science. Stronger agriculture. A more food-secure Philippines. 🌾🔬🇵🇭

PROTECTING. PARTNERING. PROGRESSING 🌾

Strengthening Partnerships for Our Indigenous Peoples and Their Ancestral Lands.

NCIP Chairperson Nancy Catamco and Commissioner for Mindanao Atty. Leslie Plaza met with Cong. Eddiebong Plaza, Dr.Agr. and Cong. Alfel Bascug to discuss the streamlining of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) guidelines and revitalized opportunities for stronger collaboration among the NCIP, Department of Agriculture (DA), and DENR.

The discussion focused on making government processes more responsive while fully respecting the rights of Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples, and on bringing science-based agricultural production practices, soil health programs, and appropriate technologies to ancestral lands.

The goal is practical: protect IP rights and ancestral domains while creating better opportunities for Indigenous communities to improve agricultural productivity, livelihoods, and the sustainable management of their lands.💚
