Bestselling author John Green's "Looking for Alaska" is the most frequently banned book since PEN America began counting in 2021. In an interview, he called the dubious honor "strange" and "surreal."
"One of the things that makes me sad is that Alaska used to be taught in hundreds of high schools, and that’s less and less the case, because it’s harder to teach it than it used to be, and that does make me sad. ... I think about books like 'Angels in America' by Tony Kushner, or a book like 'The Bluest Eye' by Toni Morrison, and I don’t know if those books would be taught today, and that just makes me so sad, because it impoverishes the lives of American high school students for no good reason."

📚✨ Imagination Fills the Air! ✨📚
The 42nd National Children’s Book Day (NCBD) will be celebrated on Tuesday, 15 July 2025, with a by-invitation-only event at Museo Pambata, Roxas Blvd., Manila.
Organized by the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY), in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the National Library of the Philippines, and Museo Pambata, this year’s theme invites everyone to celebrate the joy of reading and the power of stories.
While the official ceremony is by invitation, we encourage schools, libraries, and communities across the country to hold their own NCBD activities, read-alouds, book fairs, storytelling sessions, or reading circles, to bring children’s books to life in meaningful ways.
Let’s make imagination soar in every corner of the Philippines!
