4 Things to combat Food and Waterborne Disease
1. Boil or Purify Drinking Water: make sure all drinking water is boiled or purified before consumption to eliminate harmful pathogens that may be present in contaminated water sources.
2. Practice proper hand hygiene: Frequent hand washing with soap and water, especially before and after using the restroom, can significantly reduce the transmission of diarrheal-causing germs.
3. Ensure food safety: Be vigilant about food handling, storage and preparation. Cook food thoroughly , store perishables properly and avoid eating raw or under-cooked food.
4. Prepare homemade Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS): To manage dehydration from diarrhea, mix 1 liter of clean water with 8 teaspoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt until dissolved. However, remember that homemade ORS is not a substitute for medical treatment. Seek medical attention promptly if diarrhea is severe, persistent or accompanied by other concerning symptoms.
Remember that early awareness and responsible actions can make significant difference in safeguarding public health.
