Noong ikasiyam ng Abril 1942, pagkatapos ng tatlong buwan na Labanang Bataan, isinuko ni Major General Edward King Jr. ng Estados Unidos ang mahigit-kumulang 76,000 sundalo sa hukbong Japanese. Ang mga alyadong sundalo— Filipino, Americano, at Tsinoy—ay sapilitang pinalakad, at sa hulíng yugto ay ipinagsiksikan sa mga kotse ng tren, sa umaabot sa 140 km patungong Camp O’Donnell sa Capas, Tarlac. Libo-libo ang binawian ng búhay sa tinatawag na ”Death March” dahil sa uhaw, init, gutom, karamdaman, at pagmaltrato ng mga Japanese. Mahigit-kumulang 54,000 sundalo lámang ang nakaabot nang buháy sa kampo.

Primarily, 𝐄𝐃𝐒𝐀 refers to Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, the major highway that runs through Metro Manila. It was named after Epifanio de los Santos, a respected Filipino historian, scholar, and patriot.

More profoundly, EDSA symbolizes the historic People Power Revolution — also known as the EDSA Revolution — a peaceful uprising that took place along this very road in 1986. During those pivotal days, millions of Filipinos united in a nonviolent movement that restored democracy and showcased the extraordinary power of unity, faith, and courage.
