LIMITED SLOTS ONLY: Applications are now open for Batch 4 of the Youth Internship Program on Organic Agriculture (YIPOA) FY 2026-2027. This program is a collaborative effort between DA-NOAP and DA-ATI and shall be implemented nationwide enjoining the youth 18 to 35 years old, out-of-school youth, and college graduate.

DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Accomplished application form
2. Clear scanned copy of any valid government-issued ID (indicating the date of birth)
3. Authenticated copy of PSA Birth Certificate
4. Notarized Sworn Statement as proof of willingness and commitment to undertake organic agriculture-related activities/enterprises after the training;
5. Simplified Business Plan
6. Medical certificate indicating “fit to work” and no underlying health condition or history of psychological disorder (ECG, Drug Test, and Chest X-ray)
7. At least two (2) recommendation letters from MAO/CAO and Barangay Captain
8. Proof of land for the establishment of the business/enterprise plan (i.e. owned, leased, rented, or donated); or certification of land availability for the planned business/enterprise from the LGU/ATI RTC based on validation

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢 𝐅𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭 — 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭!

Known scientifically as 𝘗𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘶𝘮 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘭𝘦, the 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢 tree is a towering evergreen that bears large, poisonous fruits — but with careful preparation, it becomes a rare and treasured local delicacy.

Every part of the tree contains 𝐜𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐥𝐲𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬, a toxin that can be fatal if not properly processed. Some locals prefer to eat it only when fully ripe, as consuming it unripe may cause dizziness or a drunk-like sensation.

Beyond its role in traditional dishes, Pangi oil has many uses — from cooking and lighting to potential biofuel production. Its crushed seeds and leaves are also known for their antiseptic and fish-stunning properties.

Truly, the Pangi is a fascinating reminder that nature’s gifts must be handled with knowledge, care, and respect.

The Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMA) personnel participated in the 𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬 activity held at Poblacion, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur.

𝑹𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑭𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒆 𝑺𝒎𝒖𝒕 𝑨𝒍𝒆𝒓𝒕!

Farmers, be on the lookout for 𝑭𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒆 𝑺𝒎𝒖𝒕, a fungal disease caused by 𝑈𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑙𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑜𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑎 𝑣𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑠 that affects rice during the flowering stage.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿:
🔸 Yellowish-green balls that replace rice grains in the panicle.
🔸 These balls later turn orange or greenish-black.
🔸 Reduces yield and grain quality if not managed early.

𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
☁️ High humidity and frequent rains during flowering.
🌾 Dense planting and too much nitrogen fertilizer.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹:
✅ Plant resistant varieties.
✅ Avoid excessive nitrogen application.
✅ Remove and destroy infected panicles.
✅ Spray recommended fungicides at booting to flowering stage.
✅ Practice crop rotation and field sanitation.

Congratulations to 𝑴𝒓. 𝑹𝒚𝒂𝒏 𝑺. 𝑮𝒖𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒐𝒅, one of the 11 grantees under the Agricultural Training Institute – Youth Internship Program on Organic Agriculture (ATI-YIPOA) Interns Batch 3!

He received a ₱150,000 start-up capital for his chosen agricultural enterprise after successfully completing a nine-month internship at JUST-HIRO Farm . This grant will help him further develop his organic farm project — a remarkable step toward promoting sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices in our community.
