The 𝙈𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙖𝙡 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙊𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖 𝘾𝙧𝙪𝙯 joins the entire agricultural community in deeply mourning the passing of 𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑺𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒐𝒏 “𝑪𝒉𝒖𝒎” 𝑭𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒛 of the Department of Agriculture RFO XI Research Division.
𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑪𝒉𝒖𝒎 was more than a technical expert; he was a visionary mentor, a dedicated public servant, and a cornerstone of agricultural innovation in our region. As the beloved 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧 of the Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (𝘼𝙈𝙄𝘼) for the Jose Rizal Indigenous Peoples Association (𝙅𝙄𝙋𝘼𝙎), his profound commitment transformed the livelihoods of our indigenous farming community here in Santa Cruz, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to remain resilient in the face of climate challenges.
We are endlessly grateful to 𝑺𝒊𝒓 𝑪𝒉𝒖𝒎 for his tireless efforts. His hands-on leadership brought an incredible timeline of development and empowering interventions straight to our JIPAS farmers:
• 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐: Facilitated the distribution of 150 bags of fertilizers, crates, garden nets, plastic drums, lagaraw (sickles), and pruning saws to kickstart climate-resilient farming practices.
• 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 2023: Spearheaded the turnover of 2 heads of draft horses to aid in upland farm hauling and labor.
• 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 2023: Provided essential utensils and processing equipment for coffee production.
• 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 2023: Advanced local mechanization with the turnover of a vacuum sealer alongside the delivery and turnover of an Abaca Stripping Machine.
• 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 2024: Conducted the testing and successful turnover of a coffee roaster and coffee grinder to elevate the community's post-harvest value.
• 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 2024: Delivered a massive batch of agri-supplies and enterprise tools, including plastic crates, seedling trays, UV plastic, cacao sleeves, display racks, burners with LPG, mini chainsaws, and a commercial chiller.
• 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 2025: Capped off a monumental legacy with the turnover of a brand-new 1-unit ISUZU Single Cab Hauling Truck from the DA Regional Office, solving logistical barriers for our indigenous farmers.
Dako kaayo ang among pasalamat ug paghanduraw sa imong talagsaong kaayo ug dedikasyon, Sir Chum. Your brilliant mind, combined with a genuine passion for grassroots development, bridged the gap between scientific research and actual field success.
The thriving livelihoods of the JIPAS community will stand as a living testament to your life's work.
We extend our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to his family, friends, and colleagues at DA-RFO XI.
Thank you for your lifetime of dedicated service, Sir Chum. You will be greatly missed, but your legacy will forever live on in our fields.
