The Schools Division of Santa Rosa City, through the School Governance and Operations Division - School Health Section, conducted the School-Based Deworming and the Magic Glasses Health Education Video Kick-Off last September 4, 2026 at the Gabaldon Hall, Santa Rosa Elementary School Central II.
The program aimed to strengthen the School-Based Deworming Program through intensified information dissemination campaigns and strengthened collaboration with stakeholders and partner organizations. The School-Based Deworming Program, as part of the Oplan Kalusugan (OK) sa DepEd, seeks to promote health and nutrition of learners by ensuring that there are no intestinal parasites present which may interfere with nutrient absorption necessary for learners' growth, development, and overall well-being.
The Kick-off was graced by representatives from various stakeholders and organizations, including Magic Glasses Philippines, DOH CHD Regional Office IV-A, Provincial Health Office, City Health Office I, City Health Office II, representatives from Brgy. Market Area, and members of the Federated Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
The event was further honored by the presence of Prof. Darren Gray - an epidemiologist who is also the Program Director of Population Health of QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, who highlighted the importance of the control of soil-transmitted helminths especially to children.
As part of the activity and in support of the deworming campaign,
participants themselves took their deworming tablets, giving a first-hand experience of deworming for all those involved in the program implementation.
This kick-off served as a meaningful platform in engaging the schools, stakeholders, and partner organizations in remaining committed in ensuring the health and welfare of our learners.
