Southern Isabela Medical Center Achieves 2-Year MBFHFI Re-Accreditation!

The Southern Isabela Medical Center proudly marks another milestone as it is officially re-accredited as a Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace following the Mother Baby-Friendly Health Facility Initiative (MBFHFI) assessment held last February 11–13, 2026.

The three-day evaluation was conducted by the Regional Accreditation Team of the Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development, led by Dr. Anabelle S. Sanchez, Head of the Family Health Cluster. The assessment included a courtesy call with the Medical Center Chief, review of maternal and newborn care policies and records, hospital tour, observation of staff-patient interactions, and interviews with both staff and patients.

The exit conference highlighted key commendations and recommendations, including continuous capacity building, improved documentation, and sustained collaboration with CVCHD. SIMC demonstrated strong compliance with MBFHFI standards, particularly in patient-centered care and breastfeeding support, and was granted a Certificate of Re-Accreditation valid for two (2) years.

This recognition, following the successful validation of the Breastfeeding Room, reflects SIMC’s continued commitment to safe, supportive, and mother-baby friendly healthcare services.

The 2026 State of the Hospital Assembly (SOHA), held on May 6 at the Southern Isabela Medical Center’s 9th Floor Conference Hall, highlighted the institution's commitment to transparency and strategic governance. As the second iteration of the assembly format that debuted in 2025, the event is a direct offshoot of the foundational State of the Hospital Address established in 2023.

The change in format from a singular address to an assembly marks SIMC’s shift toward a more inclusive reporting structure, where Division and Service Heads are empowered to present their specific accomplishments and clinical updates. By institutionalizing this practice, the hospital has moved towards departmental accountability.

The assembly was further distinguished by the presence of Undersecretary Glenn Mathew G. Baggao, whose participation provided a crucial link between SIMC’s localized milestones and the broader health objectives of the Department of Health. His attendance is a high-level validation of the hospital's thrust to emphasize the importance of alignment between frontline service delivery and national health policy. Throughout the presentations, Service Heads provided data-driven insights into their growth and progress.

The 2026 SOHA was a synchronized push toward the hospital's future objectives, reinforcing SIMC’s role as a primary pillar of healthcare excellence in the region.
