After brief instructions from CPPO Dante C. Lisondra, they have immediately buckled up for work. The women join personnel of City Agriculture Office in making seed bags and sowing of vegetable seeds into the seed bags for germination and later sprouting of seedlings. Meanwhile, the boys are removing assorted debris and trash to clear the vicinity in order to make more space for the fledgeling vegetable seedlings. Together, these efforts contribute to improving the local environment and fostering a sense of communal responsibility and cooperation.

CPPO Lisondra discussed with Ms. Lagrama the final details regarding the 25 probationers of Surigao City Parole and Probation Office who are recipients of the ten-day TUPAD work slated to start on March 26. The PESDO manager advised the visiting Probation and Parole Officers on what to do to enable selected probationersโ€”who are currently undergoing the L.E.A.P.โ€”to avail themselves of scholarship for skills training in the 3rd Quarter of 2026.

It involves giving basic hygiene products (๐˜ช.

All fifteen (15) female inmates individually received packs of hygiene products from this office as well as packs of similar items from representatives of Farmacia Surigao, which also provided free snacks and some vitamins for the women inmates. But since there are more packs of hygiene products than there are women inmates, seven (7) senior citizens and nine (9) individuals from the LGBTQ, those who are โ€œwomen at heart,โ€ also received their share of packed goodies. The rest of the few remaining packs would be distributed by the jail officers to other inmates later in the day.

โ€œ๐Š๐š๐ค๐จ๐ฌ๐šโ€ is a slang Tagalog term that is sometimes used to refer to a fellow inmate or a cellmate. Indeed, many โ€œresidentsโ€ of Surigao City Jail are the โ€œkakosaโ€ of our probationers who spent months, if not a year or so, in Surigao City Jail before their release. A handful of our probationers volunteered to go with us at the City Jail had a mini reunion with their โ€œkakosaโ€ who are still in jail during the activity.

In observance of National Womenโ€™s Month 2026, the Philippine Statistics Authority โ€“ RSSO NCR highlights the Expanded Maternity Leave Law (Republic Act No. 11210), enacted in 2019 to strengthen maternity protection. The law provides 105 days of paid maternity leave for live childbirth (with an option to extend for 30 days without pay) and 60 days for miscarriage or emergency termination of pregnancy. It covers women in the public and private sectors, including those in the informal economy and voluntary SSS members, with up to seven (7) days transferable to the father or an alternate caregiver.

Globally, the first month of life remains the most vulnerable period for child survival, with 2.3 million newborn deaths recorded in 2022, according to the United Nations. Maternity leave supports essential newborn care and allows mothers sufficient time for recovery after childbirth.
