PLACER, SDN. || PASSED THE LOCAL COUNCIL FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN (LCPC) 2026 FUNCTIONALITY ASSESSMENT

The Local Government Unit of Placer, Surigao del Norte, under the excellent leadership of Local Chief Executive, Hon. Mayor Jovymarie "Bona" C. Villazon, has successfully passed and earned a high rating in the 2026 Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) Functionality Assessment.

This achievement stands as a testament to our strong and sincere commitment: to always care for, protect, and uphold the rights and welfare of every child, making these our topmost priority in the community.

We stand united in ensuring that no child shall be deprived of their fundamental rights — the right to survive and develop, to learn and grow healthily, to be protected from any form of harm, and to participate fully as members of society. These are the core foundations that give them the opportunity to grow up happy, safe, and successful in the future.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the DILG Surigao del Norte for this valuable recognition and appreciation.

PLACER FARMERS AND FISHERFOLK, MONTH CELEBRATED AND HONORED SUCCESSFULLY IN PLACER

A grand celebration and formal recognition of Farmers and Fisherfolk Month was held here in the municipality of Placer, Surigao del Norte, at the Doña Helen Cultural Center (DOME), at 9:30 in the morning today, May 20, 2026 – Wednesday.

Pursuant to national mandate, the month of May is dedicated and celebrated annually for them, in recognition of their vital role, hard work, and dedication that form the foundation of livelihood and prosperity of the entire community. They are the source of our food supply and the true backbone of the local economy.

This gathering is not merely a simple celebration, but a meaningful opportunity to demonstrate the genuine care and support of the Local Government Unit of Placer, Surigao del Norte. It also serves as a venue to hear their concerns and challenges, so that these may be addressed and appropriate assistance may be provided according to their needs.

The Local Government Unit of Placer acknowledges that as a municipality that thrives greatly on agriculture and fisheries, Placer will never progress and develop if the lives and livelihood of our farmers and fisherfolk do not improve and succeed first.

The activity was led by Ms. Anecita Patagan, Municipal Agriculturist and Head of the Placer Municipal Agriculture Office – the office responsible for preparing and organizing the entire program.

This initiative was strongly supported by the Local Chief Executive, Hon. Mayor Jovymarie “Bona” Celmar Villazon, together with members of the Sangguniang Bayan (Municipal Council): SB Member Hon. Alexander Elajas Jr., Chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture; SB Member Hon. Donald Villejo Sr.; and Mr. Flordelito Oraliza, Supervising Agriculturist.

Hardworking and successful farmers, fisherfolk, as well as groups and barangays that have contributed significantly to the development of our economic sectors were recognized and awarded. Honorees were selected and commended under the categories of “Outstanding Farmer”, “Outstanding Fisherfolk”, and “Outstanding Barangay in Agriculture and Fisheries”.

Mayor Bona Villazon’s official message was delivered on her behalf by SB Member Hon. Donald Villejo Sr. In her statement, the Mayor expressed her deep gratitude and great pride over the hard work and resilience of Placer’s farmers and fisherfolk.

Two employees of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Placer, Surigao del Norte, officially took their oath of office as permanent government employees at the Mayor’s Office on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 9:00 in the morning.

The newly regularized employees are Ms. Marife M. Mosca, Agricultural Technologist of the Placer Municipal Agriculture Office (PMAO), and Engr. Flynne A. Paronda, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator of the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO).

The oath-taking ceremony was administered by the Local Chief Executive, Hon. Jovymarie “Bona” Celmar Villazon. Mayor Villazon expressed her delight that another set of LGU personnel has finally secured permanent positions in public service.

She also reminded the two new regular employees to deliver genuine service to the public in their work. “As part of a government institution, our goal is to serve the people with good intentions, and we must set a good example for others to follow,” she said.

The families of the two employees were also present to show their support, and expressed joy and gratitude for this milestone and the blessing of having permanent employment.

A WHOLEHEARTED PROJECT OF MAYOR HON. JOVYMARIE “BONA” C. VILLAZON, OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNIT OF PLACER, THROUGH THE GRANTS FUND.

At 4:45 in the afternoon of Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the request of Barangay Central, Placer, Surigao del Norte, to provide additional lighting at the Barangay Covered Court was successfully granted and completed.

This facility improvement aims to better serve residents who regularly use the covered court, and more importantly, to support sports activities and events leading up to the upcoming Town Fiesta of Placer.

The new lighting system at the Barangay Central Covered Court is now officially turned over, The presentation and turnover were led by Private Secretary Ma’am Kime Celmar Caling, together with the staff of the Mayor’s Office.

This undertaking was funded through the Mayor Bona Villazon Grants Fund. True to her commitment, Mayor Bona ensures that public resources are used wisely and solely for the benefit of the people. Her core goal and guiding principle remains: “Excellent Service for Every Placernon.”

On Monday, May 11, 2026 at 1:30 PM, Local Chief Executive Hon. Jovymarie "Bona" C. Villazon convened a consultation meeting with Department Heads of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Placer. The activity was held to discuss updates, ongoing programs, and pressing concerns of each office.

During the meeting, each Department Head individually presented their reports, accomplishments, as well as existing gaps and needs requiring immediate resolution through collaborative planning and appropriate action.

PLACER, SDN. || Safety and Preparedness Measures in Place for the Upcoming Opening of "Placer Sportsfest 2026" in the Municipality of Placer, Surigao del Norte.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), headed by Mr. EJ Heartwell Teves Macasa, LDRRMO-II, is ensuring the safety and security of all attendees ahead of the event’s opening on May 8, 2026 at 1:00 PM.

A coordination meeting was held earlier today, Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Mayo's Conference Room to discuss necessary plans and preparations.

Attending the meeting was Local Chief Executive Hon. Mayor "Bona" C. Villazon, who also serves as Chairperson of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC). Mayor Villazon laid out comprehensive measures to guarantee the safety and well-being of everyone throughout the duration of Placer Sportsfest 2026.

Also present were Barangay Captains Hon. Edwin "Boyet" Alipao of Brgy. Magsaysay, Hon. Gemma Culata of Brgy. Ipil, and Hon. Alberto A. Bullo of Brgy. Central, all from Placer, Surigao del Norte.

Joining the meeting were representatives from the Placer Municipal Police Station (MPS), Bureau of Fire Protection (Placer Central Fire Station), and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). Also in attendance were Municipal Health Officer Dr. Romar Custodio of the Placer Primary Care Facility (PCF), Engr. Melani Pampula MENRO Officer, event coaches, and the Tournament Manager.

PLACER, SDN. || FLAG RAISING CEREMONY HELD BY LGU-PLACER ON THE FIRST MONDAY OF MAY 2026

On Monday, May 4, 2026 at 7:45 in the morning, the Local Government Unit of Placer conducted its regular flag raising ceremony. This activity serves as the first official undertaking to strengthen work ethics, fulfill government mandates, and uphold commitment to public service.

The event was sponsored by the Municipal Treasury Office, under the supervision of Assistant Municipal Treasury Officer, Mr. Ramon Christopher Alon.

Attending the ceremony were Local Chief Executive, Hon. Mayor Jovymarie "Bona" Celmar Villazon, together with Sangguniang Bayan Members: Hon. Roberto "Kadong" Lerio, Hon. Jenito Calimbo, Hon. Alexander Elajas Jr., and Hon. Donald Villejo Sr.

Also present were personnel from the Placer Municipal Police Station, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection (Placer Central Fire Station), as well as staff from various national and local government agencies.

In his speech, Hon. Roberto "Kadong" Lerio shared the legislative body’s priorities and continued efforts to deliver programs and services for the people of Placer.

Meanwhile, Mayor Bona Villazon also delivered her message. She announced that the 2026 Placer Sportsfest is fast approaching, and encouraged all employees to actively participate and cooperate in this annual activity.

She further reminded everyone to remain dedicated to public service, as the people have placed their trust in the local government. She emphasized the importance of giving back to the community with sincere and wholehearted service.

PLACER, SDN. || Municipal Advisory Group (MAG) Office Now Constructed, Made Possible Through the Strong Support and Leadership of Local Chief Executive Hon. Mayor Jovymarie "Bona" C. Villazon

Through the grant funds managed by Mayor Bona Villazon and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Placer, the request submitted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Municipal Advisory Group (MAG) has been granted. As a result, the construction of the said project has now been completed. This initiative was originally outlined in a resolution as early as 2023, serving as one of the key plans and projects of the Municipal Advisory Group.

Given Mayor Bona’s responsible management of government funds, the request was not immediately accommodated at the time, as there were other pending and more urgent priority projects that required the allocation of public resources.

In 2026, an updated request, resolution, budget proposal, and project plan were submitted. Upon review, Mayor Bona Villazon recognized the value and importance of the initiative and approved its implementation—especially since she is also a member of the Municipal Advisory Group.

The new MAG Office is situated right beside the Placer Municipal Police Station (MPS). It aims to serve as a venue where residents can share insights and suggestions that will contribute to the town’s development. It also reflects the commitment of the Placer PNP and all MAG members to actively collaborate with various organizations and stakeholders.

PMAJ Arnold Y. Nachor, Chief of Police of Placer Municipal Police Station, expressed his deep gratitude. Through the collective efforts of the MAG members, Placer now hosts the first-ever MAG Office at the municipal level in the entire province of Surigao del Norte. Prior to this, only the Surigao City PNP had established such an office. He further extended his appreciation.

PLACER, SDN. || COORDINATION MEETING HELD FOR UPCOMING SPORTSFEST 2026

To Plan Necessary Steps to Ensure the Success, Safety and Security of the Event

On April 24, 2026, Friday, at 9:00 in the morning, the Coordination Meeting for the upcoming "Sportsfest 2026" was held at the Mayor’s Conference Room. The meeting was attended by Tournament Managers, Inter-Agency Representatives, Coaches, and representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Placer Municipal Police Station (MPS), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Placer Primary Care Facility (PCF), and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

The meeting was presided over by the Local Chief Executive, Hon. Mayor Jovymarie "Bona" C. Villazon. Also present was Federated SK Chairman Hon. Faith Ruiz, who presented the different sports events lined up and explained the ground rules to be observed for the "Sportsfest 2026" tournament.

Dr. Romar Custodio gave emphasis on the health and well-being of the athletes. He suggested measures to prevent health risks and injuries, especially due to the current hot weather condition.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection will strictly monitor all venues to ensure they do not become overcrowded or exceed their maximum capacity, to prevent any untoward incidents.

The Placer Municipal Police Station assured that they will be on full deployment to provide security, maintain peace and order, and ensure the safety of the public.

The Philippine Coast Guard will also be on constant monitoring, particularly for the Swimming events which will be held at Barangay Lakandula, Placer, Surigao del Norte.

The MDRRMO Placer will likewise implement necessary safety measures for the activity, with all rescue teams on high alert and ready to respond to any emergency.

During the meeting, it was also announced that the screening of Inter-Agency players will be held on April 20, 2026, at 9:00 in the morning at the Doña Helen Cultural Center (DOME).

It was confirmed that the opening ceremony of "Sportsfest 2026" is scheduled on May 8, 2026.

Specifically in the Municipality of Placer, Surigao del Norte, The Sangguniang Bayan of Placer Calls on All Placernons

On April 25, 2026, Saturday, at 1:00 in the afternoon, a Public Hearing will be held at the Barangay Bad-as Covered Court, P-5 Sto. Niño, Barangay Bad-as, Placer, Surigao del Norte.

This Public Hearing will discuss the amendment or revision of certain provisions of Municipal Ordinance No. 2024-01, particularly Section 11 regarding Passenger Fare Rates.

The goal of this hearing is to adjust or increase the current fare rates for motorized tricycles as a temporary measure, in response to the rising cost of fuel in the Municipality of Placer, Surigao del Norte.
