The National Fisheries Research and Development Institute โ Freshwater Fisheries Research and Development Center (NFRDI-FFRDC) in Butong, Taal, Batangas proudly congratulates the four (4) BS Fisheries students from Central Luzon State University (CLSU) for successfully completing their On-the-Job Training (OJT) program from April 27 to June 1, 2026.
During their internship, the students gained valuable hands-on experience in the Marine Farm, Freshwater Farm, Laboratory, and Administrative/Office Units. They also attended lectures on aquaculture, laboratory operations, and capture fisheries, helping them strengthen both their knowledge and practical skills.
As part of their training, the interns participated in research activities, including the study of Tetra (๐๐บ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ค๐ฐ๐ณ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ด ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ต๐ป๐ช) embryonic development and special problem studies on the feeding variation and gut content analysis of Bali Sardinella (๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ญ๐ข ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ณ๐ถ) in Balayan Bay, Batangas. They presented their findings to a panel of FFRDC researchers, providing them valuable experience in scientific research and presentation.
The internship provided the students with an opportunity to apply what they learned in the classroom to real-world fisheries and aquaculture work while developing skills that will support their future careers.
This on-the-job training is a part of NFRDI's Students' Training Support (STrainS) Program, an immersion, on-the-job training (OJT) or internship program designed for high school (junior and senior) and college (undergraduate and graduate) students in the Philippines seeking training at NFRDI. The program is available in two cycles every year.
