🦟 OCTOBER 9–23, 2026 | PROTECTING SCHOOLS, OFFICES & COMMUNITIES, PREVENTING DENGUE: CDRRMO IN ACTION 🏫🏘️

As part of its continuing commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of every Tabukeño, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) conducted a series of dengue prevention fogging operations from October 9–23, 2026, covering selected schools, offices, and communities across Tabuk City.

These operations were undertaken as a proactive measure to help reduce adult mosquito populations and minimize the risk of dengue transmission in areas where intervention was deemed necessary.

Through these initiatives, the CDRRMO continues to work hand in hand with schools, barangays, and other institutions to promote a clean, safe, and healthy environment for everyone.

🦟 4S STRATEGY: SAMA-SAMA LABAN SA DENGUE

Beyond fogging operations, the CDRRMO reminds everyone that dengue prevention is a shared responsibility. Schools, teachers, students, parents, barangay officials, and community members are encouraged to practice the 4S Strategy:

🔹 SEARCH AND DESTROY – Maghanap at Mag-alis
Regularly inspect your surroundings and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites. Remove stagnant water from containers, flowerpots, tires, and other areas where mosquitoes may lay their eggs.

🔹 SELF-PROTECTION – Sariling Proteksyon
Protect yourself from mosquito bites by using mosquito repellents, wearing long-sleeved clothing and long pants, and installing screens or using mosquito nets when appropriate.

🔹 SEEK EARLY CONSULTATION – Magpakonsulta Agad
Seek prompt medical consultation if you experience dengue-like symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, body aches, persistent vomiting, or unusual bleeding. Early consultation is essential for proper assessment and treatment.

🔹 SUPPORT FOGGING/SPRAYING – Suportahan ang Fogging at Spraying
Cooperate with health and local authorities during fogging or spraying activities when these interventions are deemed necessary and appropriate.

The CDRRMO extends its sincere gratitude to Hon. Darwin C. Estrañero, City Mayor of Tabuk, for his continued support of programs and initiatives that promote the health, safety, and well-being of every Tabukeño. 💙

Together, let us build cleaner, safer, and healthier schools and communities!

DOST Project SARAI Strengthen Local Capacity on Weather Monitoring; Completes Year 1 AWS Installation in Tabuk City, Kalinga

To strengthen local partners’ capacity to use weather data and digital technologies for climate-smart agriculture, DOST Project SARAI Kordilyera conducted a three-day training on Automatic Weather Station (AWS) operation and maintenance and SARAI digital systems on October 13–15, 2026, at Kalinga State University (KSU), Tabuk City, Kalinga.

Organized in collaboration with the SARAI Central Hub, the training complemented the installation of SARAI Automatic Weather Stations and aimed to equip 30 participants with the knowledge and skills needed to operate and maintain the stations, process weather data, and use SARAI’s digital tools. These included BANATECH, SPIDTECH, Bantay SARAI, and the SARAI Knowledge Portal, which support agricultural monitoring, analysis, and decision-making.

Throughout the three-day activity, the SARAI Central Hub guided participants through the process of collecting, processing, analyzing, and interpreting weather data to generate useful information for agricultural planning and management.

The training officially opened on October 13 with welcome remarks from Dr. Lope T. Buen, KSU Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training, followed by a message from Dr. Nancy A. Bantog. In her message, she emphasized the importance of the Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) beyond their function as weather-monitoring equipment, stating, “Let us remember that these Automatic Weather Stations are more than pieces of equipment installed in our communities. They represent an investment in better information, more informed decisions, and a more resilient agricultural sector.”

SARAI Project Consultant Mr. Nelio C. Altoveros led the technical session on AWS calibration methodology to help ensure accurate and reliable weather measurements.

On October 14, participants focused on weather data processing and analysis. They learned to use WeatherLink software to download, visualize, and analyze weather station data, as well as generate data summaries using Microsoft Excel and Python.

They also explored geographic information system (GIS) software and Google Earth Engine for the spatial processing and analysis of weather data which will be essential in crafting crop and weather advisories that would benefit their farming communities.
On the final day, October 15, participants were introduced to SARAI’s digital systems, which integrate weather and crop information to support decision-making among farmers and other agricultural stakeholders. The session highlighted how these tools can help translate weather and agricultural data into practical information for crop monitoring and farm management.
The three-day activity concluded with a sharing of insights among participants and the awarding of certificates. Ms. Dexy M. Catacutan, Supervising Science Research Specialist of DOST-PSTO Kalinga, delivered the closing remarks.

Following the training, the SARAI Kordilyera team, together with the SARAI Central Hub, proceeded with the installation of an AWS in Magsaysay, Tabuk City, Kalinga, attended by representatives from PLGU-Kalinga and CLGU Tabuk. The installation marked a significant milestone, the completion of the third and final AWS installation for the project’s Year 1 partners.

Tabuk City in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology’s Project SARAI boosted climate resilience in the city with the deployment of an Automatic Weather Station which aims to increase agricultural production through timely and localized weather data.

A team from SARAI-Kordilyera, SARAI Central, Tabuk CDRRMO, Office of the City Agricultural Services, and Provincial LGU installed and configured the AWS at Brgy Magsaysay on Oct. 15.

The AWS monitors parameters essential for crop growth including rainfall, temperature, humidity, atmospheric, and solar radiation. Data collected will also provide long-term weather record to support data-driven agricultural planning and research.

Office of the City Agricultural Services chief Lim Ducyogen said that the AWS enables the city to provide farmers with more location-specific weather advisories and forecast to guide farmers in their crop management practices, particularly in planting and harvesting schedules, irrigation, and pest management.

“Nu anya ti ma-gather nga data ti AWS isu met ti pagbasaran tayu ti panagraep ken panagmula,” he said

Ducyogen said that full utilization of the AWS depends on equipping personnel with skills on weather data gathering, analysis and dissemination. To this end, employees from the CDRRMO, OfCAS, and TCPIO along with KSU researchers and farmer leaders joined a three-day training facilitated by the SARAI team from Oct. 13-15.

The training covered hands-on training on AWS maintenance and calibration. Softwares were also introduced to capacitate participants on weather data processing including data downloading, visualization, analysis, and generation of data summaries.

The installation of the AWS in the city enhances farming sector’s resilience by removing guesswork in farming and minimize uncertainties brought by extreme weather conditions like the El Nino.
