Beyond the Rainbow: Inspiring Lives, Championing Equality, and Building Inclusive Futures 🌈

The Leyte Normal University – Center for Gender and Development Studies (LNU-CGDS) successfully conducted the online symposium, "Beyond the Rainbow: Inspiring Lives, Championing Equality, and Building Inclusive Futures," on June 29, 2026, via Zoom in celebration of Pride Month.

The program brought together educators, students, and advocates in meaningful conversations that promoted human rights, gender equality, diversity, and inclusion. Participants gained valuable insights from Atty. Dave Paulo Seco Batula, who discussed "Human Rights in Action: Understanding Constitutional Rights, Safe Spaces, and Equity Under Existing Philippine Laws," followed by an inspiring Stories of Pride session featuring Mr. Tyrone O. Gil Jr. and Mr. Brian S. Delopere, who shared their personal experiences and journeys of resilience, authenticity, and hope.

The Center for Gender and Development Studies extends its heartfelt gratitude to all our distinguished speakers, university officials, participants, organizers, and partners for making this event a meaningful success. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a community where love, respect, equality, and inclusion are not merely ideals but lived values.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the diversity, courage, and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities. We envision a society where every person is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness—regardless of s*x, gender identity, gender expression, or s*xual orientation.

True gender equality means creating spaces where everyone can participate, thrive, and be heard without fear of discrimination. It means ensuring that every individual has equal opportunities to live, work, lead, and succeed.

The Philippine Commission on Women reaffirms its commitment to advancing inclusivity, promoting human rights, and fostering a society where no one is left behind.

One of the suggested activities stipulated in the CHED Office Memo No. 22 Series 2026 relative to National Women's month celebration is 5.11 . As our tribute to women and their invaluable contributions to society, LNU faculty, staff and students are encouraged to wear or don anything of purple color(shirt, polo, blouse, pants, ribbon,cap, brooch, etc) to symbolize solidarity with women empowerment and gender equality. Mabuhay ang mga kababaihan!

The Research, Extension, Innovation Center at Government Center, Palo became the venue of the OREI fair 2026 in line with the LNU 105th Founding Anniversary. Various government agencies, other State universities in Region 8 and offices under ORIE like the Gender and Development (GAD) Office also joined in this worthwhile endeavor from March 3-5, 2026.

The Objectives of ORIE Fair 2026 are:

1. To showcase the research, innovation, and extension initiatives of Leyte Normal University and its partners.
2. To strengthen collaboration among academic institutions, government agencies, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
3. To provide a platform for knowledge sharing and technology demonstration through exhibits, presentations, and interactive activities.
4. To promote innovation, creativity, and research engagement among students, faculty members, and the wider community.
5. To highlight programs and services of partner agencies that support research, technology development, entrepreneurship, and community development.

Leyte Normal University conducted the NWMC-themed Flag Raising Ceremony spearheaded by the Junior Social Workers' Association of the Philippines-LNU Chapter and Gender and Development Office, which coincides with the 2026 Women's Month Kickoff and Purple Ribbon Pinning Ceremony at the ORC quadrangle, with the message of GAD Director, Dr. Gerardo P. Nicol focusing on gender equality and women's empowerment.
