PAGASA's latest 11 a.m. advisory today, Nov. 14, indicates that Tropical Storm MAN-YI continues to intensify as it approaches the Philippines. As of 11:00 AM today, the storm was located 1,375 km east of Northeastern Mindanao, with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h and gusts of up to 105 km/h.
It is moving west-southwestward at 25 km/h and is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight, where it will be named "Pepito."
Forecast models, including data from Windy and the ECMWF model, suggest that the Samar provinces, particularly Guiuan, Borongan, and Laoang in Northern Samar, may experience direct effects from the storm starting Friday night through Saturday (November 15-16).
The storm is expected to make landfall along the eastern coast of Southern Luzon on November 16 or 17, although its track could shift further west.
The storm could intensify into a severe tropical storm or even a super typhoon before making landfall. PAGASA warns of the potential for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surges in affected areas. Hazardous sea conditions are also expected along coastal areas by late Friday or Saturday.
PAGASA urges the public, particularly those in vulnerable areas, to stay alert for updates and to follow local advisories. The next official advisory will be issued at 11:00 PM tonight. # # #
