To promote preventive healthcare and strengthen employee wellness, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Office VIII conducted a Laboratory Screening Activity on May 21, 2026 at the DILG VIII Training Center under its Personnel Welfare and Development Program – Health and Wellness Component.

The activity, conducted in partnership with PhilHealth through its Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP) and HappyDoc Multispecialty OPC, catered 44 DILG 8 personnel with various laboratory examinations including Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), Creatinine, Lipid Profile (LDL, HDL, Total Cholesterol, and Triglycerides), Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), Blood Uric Acid (BUA), SGPT, and SGOT under the Basic Laboratory package. Complete Blood Count (CBC), Urinalysis, and Chest PA examinations were also conducted during the activity.

This initiative forms part of DILG VIII’s continuing efforts to safeguard the health and well-being of its workforce by providing accessible medical screening services and encouraging regular health monitoring for early disease detection. The Personnel Welfare and Development Program is likewise implemented in partnership with JCI Candahug for its overall lifestyle management and personnel development component.

Through the conduct of the laboratory screening, DILG VIII reaffirmed its commitment to employee welfare and organizational resilience by continuously implementing health and wellness initiatives that contribute to a healthy, productive, and future-ready workforce in support of quality public service delivery.

To promote informed perspectives and proactive involvement among the youth in the fight against illegal drugs, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region VIII conducted its 2nd Quarter Anti-Illegal Drug Symposium on May 3, 2026, at Leyte Colleges in Tacloban City, Leyte.

The symposium featured discussions that equipped participants with key knowledge on drug prevention and awareness. Representatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) discussed drug identification, commonly abused substances, and their effects, as well as provided an overview of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The discussions also highlighted common reasons individuals fall into drug use and shared strategies to resist and overcome such pressures.

Moreover, providing a law enforcement perspective, PCPL Christopher D. Abadines of the Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO) emphasized the importance of information gathering, validation, and proper reporting, reinforcing the vital role of community vigilance in combating illegal drug activities.

In his message, Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Division (LGMED) Assistant Chief Adrian Thomas E. Colasito emphasized that addressing illegal drugs is a shared responsibility requiring the active participation of all sectors. He highlighted the crucial roles of local government units, law enforcement agencies, partner organizations, and the wider community, while underscoring the youth as both key participants and advocates of change.

Through this initiative, the Department continues to foster a strong sense of shared accountability among the youth and stakeholders. By empowering participants with knowledge and encouraging active involvement, the symposium reinforces the message that preventing drug abuse begins with informed individuals and a community committed to safeguarding its future.
