The 8FSSU Behind Saving Lives
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte- On August 25, 2024, the Eight Forward Service Support Unit (8FSSU), Army Support Command, Philippine Army in collaboration with 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army and 8th Regional Community Defense Group (8RCDG) participated the simultaneous bloodletting activity held at Headquarters Naval Station Dioscoro Papa, Naval Forces Central, Philippine Navy, San Jose, Tacloban City, Leyte.
During this momentous event, a citizen with serious medical need, who had just undergone immediate surgery after being diagnosed with an aneurysm was instantaneously provided with readily available blood (Type B+), wherein a total of 2,250cc were benevolently donated to him by the volunteers from 8FSSU and 546th Engineer Construction Battalion, 53rd Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army. The charitable activity was successfully administered by the medical team from Eastern Visayas Medical Center, Tacloban City, Leyte.
Respectively, Lieutenant Colonel Mario A. Tena, OS (GSC) PA, the Acting Commanding Officer of 8FSSU, fervently expressed the unit's commitment to carrying out and magnifying the AFP's patriotic objective of boosting survivability across the nation.

8FSSU Conduct Change of Command Ceremony
PALO Leyte – The Eight Forward Service Support Unit, Army Support Command, Philippine Army, facilitated a change of leadership through a Change of Command Ceremony on 16 August 2024. The time-honored military tradition signifying formal transition of authority and responsibility between the two (2) responsible individuals was held at Headquarters 8FSSU in Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Campetic, Palo, Leyte. This was presided by Major General Rogelio D. Ulanday PA, Commander, ASCOM, PA, and attended by various distinguished guest from the military and civilian stakeholders who have been partners of this unit.
In the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Tommy A. Bertoldo handed over his leadership to Lieutenant Colonel Mario A. Tena as the new Commanding Officer of 8FSSU. Lieutenant Colonel Bertoldo was duly recognized for his exemplary performance leading the unit towards efficient and proactive delivery of logistical requirement to all PA units within the Area of Operations which contributed to the AFP’s military objectives in Eastern Visayas overall success.
Newly installed Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Tena, expressed his gratitude for the trust and confidence bestowed to him by the Higher Headquarters for leading 8FSSU. With his broad experience in military logistics operation, Lt. Col. Tena emphasized his commitment to continue the unit’s constitutional mandates in providing essential requirement of the supported units to include other government agencies in HADR operations during disasters.
Major General Ulanday commended both Officers for their dedication to duty, ability to lead and highlighted to maintain their enthusiasm in addressing the complexities of the logistics operational environment to carry out their mission.

8FSSU Aids Significant Information on logistics to 8ID, PA
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar — The Eight Forward Service Support Unit, ASCOM , PA headed by Lt. Col. Tommy A Bertoldo OS (GSC) PA participated the Eight Infantry (Stormtroopers) Division, Philippine Army's 1st Semester Logistics Forum and Property Accountability Seminar held at Headquarters 8ID, PA, Brgy Maulong, Catbalogan City, Samar on 11-12 June 2024 participated by the Responsible Supply Officer (RSO) and Responsible Supply Non-Commisioned Officer (RSNCO) from the different PA units in Eastern Visayas - Region 8. The said activity consisted various lectures covering property management, resposibilities, and accountabilities to various supplies issued to PA units.
In the onset, Lt. Col. Bertoldo shared wisdom as the Keynote Speaker and presented lecture pertaining Management of CCSR Fi****ms obtained from the Threat Group in the area. This intends to enlighten the participants on the implementation of the newest policy dealing proper management of the classified items preventing it to be used in the illegal activities.
Prior culmination Subject Matter Expert (SME) presented lecture on Storage and Warehousing emphasising planning, coordination, controlling, and directing which are important matters to be considered keeping the supplies in good quality and issuable when necessary. Further Logistics Security was discussed to heighten the awareness of the responsible personnel to strictly implement counter measures against pilferage and the administrative sanctions to the culprit keeping the supplies protected while in transit and storage.
Finally, technical experts on maintenance of vehicles discussed Preventive Maintenance Check Services (PMCS) to keep the road worthiness of all issued mobility assets including the bound of reponsibilities that rest upon the designated drivers.
Lt. Col. Bertoldo underscores commitment in support to the capability building efforts of 8ID, PA which aims to sustain the efficiency of the organizational governance contributory to the overall accomplishment of the AFP.

8FSSU & 7FSSU "Logistics Operations: Ammunition and Fi****ms Transport for 8ID, PA"
The 8FSSU’s unwavering commitment to providing logistical support to the 8th Infantry “STORM TROOPER” Division, PA, highlights its crucial function in upholding operational readiness and effectiveness within Region 8 – Eastern Visayas.
On April 30, 2024, tasked personnel led by Lt Col, Nestor L . Valenzuela II GSC (OS) PA, Executive Officer this unit departed from H8FSSU, ASCOM, PA, in Palo, Leyte to Seaport Ormoc City, utilizing various military vehicles to transport different types of ammunition, fi****ms, and accessories that were transferred from Headquarters 7FSSU, ASCOM, PA Cebu City. Said supplies were loaded onto the Philippine Navy Vessel BRP TAUSUG (LC295), which set sail from Naval Base, Rafael Ramos (NBRR) in Looc, Lapu-Lapu City to Seaport Ormoc City.
8FSSU highlights the essential function of logistical operations in guaranteeing the safe transportation of ammunition, fi****ms, and accessories to meet the firepower requirements of 8ID, PA for its current operations within its area of responsibility.

8FSSU Turned-over the assorted CCSR/CCSDAF Fi****ms to PRO8, PNP
In compliance with RA10951, on April 26, 2024, the 8th Forward Service Support Unit, under LTC TOMMY A BERTOLDO OS (GSC) PA, ceremonially handed over 141 captured, confiscated, surrendered, and recovered fi****ms to Police Regional Office 8, headed by PGEN REYNALDO H PAWID, PRO8, PNP, at Multipurpose Hall, Camp Ruperto C Kangleon, Brgy Campetik, Palo, Leyte. Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Fi****ms and Ammunition Regulation Act, regulates the manufacture, sale, possession, and carrying of fi****ms and ammunition in the Philippines.
As per the AFP Logistics Directive dated February 26, 2024, all captured, confiscated, surrendered, and recovered fi****ms must be turned in to the PNP for proper disposition in accordance with Republic Act 10591. Compliance with these procedures aims to prevent unlawful use or possession of fi****ms and maintain public safety and security. The 8th Forward Service Support Unit, responsible for receiving and securely storing fi****ms, ensures proper safekeeping, conducting thorough inspections of each firearm.
The ceremonial turn-over took place on April 26, 2024, marking a significant collaboration between the 8FSSU and PRO8, demonstrating their joint commitment to firearm regulation and public safety.

"Team 8FSSU provides Logistical support to 63rd Infantry “Innovator” Battalion"
On April 17, 2024, Team 8FSSU, led by Lt. Col. Tommy A. Bertoldo OS (GSC) PA, conducted a vital logistics assessment at the Headquarters of the 63rd Infantry "Innovator" Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army. Throughout the visit, the team meticulously evaluated the unit's requirements and operational readiness, gaining valuable insights to provide tailored logistical support and streamline operations effectively.
The visit focused on essential aspects of logistics management, including equipment inspections, inventory audits, and facility maintenance. The team's expertise extended to technical inspections of military equipment, ensuring optimal functionality for training and operations. Comprehensive ammunition surveillance and inspection were conducted to safeguard stored ammunition's integrity and safety. Additionally, swift repairs were made to numerous fi****ms, and vehicle technical inspections were completed. A lecture on logistics security refreshed the knowledge of accountable personnel, further enhancing supply management with integrity and safe handling of various supplies.
Lt. Col. Bertoldo emphasized Team 8FSSU's vital role in delivering timely and relevant combat service support to the 63rd IB Innovator Battalion.
In response, Lt. Col. Eduardo I Meclat Jr., Commanding Officer 63IB, 8ID, PA, and other officers expressed gratitude for the visit, acknowledging its pivotal role in bolstering logistical capabilities and operational readiness within the Philippine Army. The visit underscored the importance of proactive logistics management in ensuring the Army's readiness to effectively fulfill its operational commitments.

PALO, Leyte — The 8th Forward Service Support Unit (8FSSU), Army Support Command, Philippine Army celebrated its 32nd Founding Anniversary last 15 March 2024. With the theme, “Celebrating 32 years: Supporting and Sustaining Army units in Region VIII – Eastern Visayas with dedication, excellence, and resilience“,
The activity was graced by MGEN ROGELIO D. ULANDAY PA, Commander, Army Support Command, PA, in his message in which he commended all personnel of 8FSSU for their significant contributions to the unit's remarkable achievements. He also motivated the members of Team 8FSSU to persist in their pursuit of excellence and to reach even greater heights. MGEN ULANDAY was filled with appreciation for the hard work and dedication displayed by 8FSSU personnel, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and continued success. The message resonated with the personnel, inspiring them to strive for continuous improvement and success.
Likewise, An awarding ceremony was held to honor the Best Enlisted Personnel for CY 2024. SSg Jovani S Villena (QMS) PA from Hqs Coy, Sgt Jonaben P Barrantes (OS) PA from Transportation Coy, PFC Eugene S Manang (Inf) PA from Maintenance Coy, and PFC Arnel D Rebuta (Inf) PA from Supply Coy were recognized in their respective companies as Best Enlisted Personnel. They were presented with Certificates of Appreciation for their outstanding contributions. SSg Jovani S Villena (QMS) PA the Operations NCO of 8FSSU was also named the Mabinuligon Trooper of the Year 2024, receiving an additional Certificate of Appreciation and a Pistol 9mm Ta**us PT24/7 as a token of appreciation.
Over the years, 8FSSU has remained committed and steadfast in its mission of providing quality logistics support to its supported units and partner stakeholders in the region.

8FSSU Celebrates Sports Fest 2024
PALO, Leyte — With the theme ” Celebrating 32 years: Supporting and Sustaining Army units in Region VIII – Eastern Visayas with dedication, excellence, and resilience,” 8th Forward Service Support Unit, Army Support Command, Philippine Army, led by its Commanding Officer, LTC TOMMY A BERTOLDO OS (GSC) PA conducted sportsfest from 04 to 07 March 2024.
This activity's main goal is to uplift soldiers' spirits, improve their overall physical and mental well-being, and foster strong bonds among them. Its aim is to boost morale, increase alertness, and cultivate a sense of unity and camaraderie within the troop.
All personnel played the following games in the event: Banner Raising, Shoot Fest, Competency Competition by Company, and Basketball.
The sports fest provided 8FSSU personnel with an opportunity to improve their skills and camaraderie, ensuring readiness for Army Logistics Operations in the region. It also allowed for personal growth and relaxation, strengthening morale and enhancing overall performance in the military.
This event highlights the significance of maintaining a strong work-life balance, ensuring equal focus on fulfilling the unit's objectives while also prioritizing personal well-being.
