๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐ง, ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ๐ง ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ โ For 22-year-old Julian J. Enero of Brgy. Baybay, Catarman, Northern Samar, the Department of Labor and Employmentโs (DOLE) Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) was more than an opportunity to earn while studyingโit became a stepping stone toward her professional career.
Her journey highlights the importance of youth employment initiatives that DOLE, under the leadership of Secretary Francis N. Tolentino, continues to implement to help young Filipinos gain work experience, develop essential skills, and prepare for meaningful employment.
As a student pursuing a degree in Office Administration, Julian faced two common challengesโfinancial difficulties and a lack of practical work experience needed for future employment. Encouraged by her uncle, an employee at the local government unit, she joined SPES to gain hands-on experience aligned with her academic course while earning financial support. Her participation spanned two separate engagements, first serving from June 17 to July 16, 2024, and returning for a second stint from June 9 to July 8, 2026.
During her SPES deployment, Julian performed various administrative responsibilities, including assisting clients, encoding data, filing documents, and organizing records. These hands-on tasks allowed her to experience an actual office environment and apply knowledge beyond what could be learned inside the classroom. Through the program, she enhanced her computer literacy and customer service skills while developing professionalism, time management, patience, a stronger sense of responsibility, and workplace confidence.
Beyond gaining valuable experience, SPES also provided much-needed financial assistance that helped Julian continues her education. As she shared, โThis program helped me with my tuition and other expenses while I was studying.โ
Equipped with practical knowledge, relevant skills, and increased workplace confidence, Julian successfully transitioned into the workforce after graduation. She was hired by the Provincial Government of Northern Samar (PGNS) under the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (PEDIPO) as a Senior Office Assistant. In her current position, she assists in organizing and facilitating trainings and seminars, designs certificates and graphic materials, and performs administrative functions such as document encoding and scanning.
Julianโs journey of being a student seeking financial support to a SPES beneficiary, college graduate, and government employee, demonstrates how timely opportunities can open doors to meaningful employment and long-term career growth. Her success reflects the core purpose of SPES which is empowering young Filipinos to earn, learn, and build a strong foundation for their future careers.
More than a temporary employment opportunity, Julianโs experience stands as a testament to DOLEโs continuing commitment to equipping the youth with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed, reinforcing the DOLE Northern Samar Field Officeโs commitment to public service.
