A Plaque of Appreciation was handed over to the City of Baybay for their unwavering support and close collaboration with the abaca industry during the leadership of Director Wilardo O. Sinahon.

The plaque was graciously presented by the now OIC Regional Director of PhilFIDA, Joseph S. Salas, to City Mayor Carlos L. Cari, joined by Jose L. Bacusmo, Chair of the Committee on Agriculture.

Beyond the symbolic gesture, a short discussion was done on the accomplishments of the Locally Funded Project: Abaca Rehabilitation in the City of Baybay - a testament to the city’s commitment to uplifting abaca farmers and sustaining the growth of the industry.

Together, PhilFIDA and the City of Baybay continue to weave a legacy of partnership, progress, and purpose for the abaca sector of Eastern Visayas.

In view of the compulsory retirement of Director Wilardo O. Sinahon, a ceremonial turnover of the Key of Responsibilities was held to formally transfer the leadership of PhilFIDA Region VIII to OIC Regional Director Joseph S. Salas. The ceremony symbolized the smooth transition of duties, accountability, and commitment to public service. It also served as a gesture of gratitude to Director Sinahon for his dedicated years of service and unwavering leadership, ensuring continuity and excellence within the agency.

Let me take this moment to sincerely thank each of you for the support, the laughter, and the many shared moments and experiences over the years.

PhilFIDA Region VIII Holds FY 2025 Mid-Year Assessment

The Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) Regional Office VIII successfully conducted its FY 2025 Mid-Year Assessment on October 2–3, 2025.

In his message, Regional Director Wilardo O. Sinahon highlighted the importance of the activity in reviewing the performance of Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs), including the Locally Funded Project: Abaca Development Project. The assessment focused on evaluating physical and financial accomplishments for the first half of the year, identifying gaps and challenges in implementation, and crafting strategies to ensure the timely and effective delivery of targets for the remainder of FY 2025.

This activity underscores PhilFIDA Region VIII’s commitment to accountability, efficiency, and the sustainable development of the fiber industry in Eastern Visayas.

The oath-taking ceremony of the newly hired and promoted employees of PhilFIDA Region VIII was led by Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza, who emphasized the importance of working not merely for compliance, but striving to go beyond expectations. In his message, he encouraged everyone to uphold excellence, integrity, and dedication in the performance of their duties as public servants.

The newly hired employees include Fiber Development Officers I Janica Mae Lleve, Jessa Mae Ramirez, and Brenda Gelizon, and Engineer I Romel Linao.

Meanwhile, Amor Anadia was promoted to Science Research Specialist II, and Hector Cupat to Fiber Development Officer II.
