OWWA Region VIll Joins the Micro-Agrikabuhayan Para sa OFWs Program in Tacloban City Championing sustainable livelihood and economic empowerment for Overseas Filipino Workers and their families, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office VIlI participated in the Micro-Agrikabuhayan Para sa OFWs Program held on May 26-28, 2026, at ETSU Hotel, Tacloban City.
Representing OWWA RWO VIII were Family Welfare Officer Ms. Cara Marie L. Abit and Mr. Zoren C. Deguerio, who joined fellow participants and stakeholders in exploring pathways toward meaningful and lasting livelihood opportunities for OFWs and their dependents.
Among the key highlights of the program was an in-depth orientation on the Tulong PUSO Program, covering its objectives, implementation process, requirements, and the forms of assistance available to qualified beneficiaries. The discussions further broadened to include financial empowerment and entrepreneurship, equipping participants with actionable knowledge and strategies for developing sustainable livelihood initiatives grounded in the agriculture sector.
OWWA Region VIll's participation in the activity stands as a reminder of the agency's ongoing effort to ensure that OFWs and their families have access to the resources, knowledge, and opportunities.

Bringing essential financial knowledge and values formation directly to the community, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Office VIII conducted a Financial Literacy and Values Re-Orientation Seminar on May 25, 2026, at Barangay Poblacion, District II, Babatngon, Leyte.
The activity was graced by OHD Officer Sir Adrian Paul Espares of Babatngon, who delivered the opening message and set the tone for a day of meaningful engagement and community-centered service. Resource speakers Ms. Ermalyn Darang, Technical Support Staff of DTI Negosyo Center Tacloban, and Ms. Joan Presiguel, Trade Industry Development Analyst of DTI Leyte Negosyo Center, facilitated the discussions, imparting practical financial management skills and reinforcing the values essential to sustainable household and livelihood development.
The seminar served as more than an educational undertaking. It was a reaffirmation of OWWA Region VIII's mandate to address the holistic needs of Overseas Filipino Workers and their families, recognizing that financial preparedness is as critical as any program or benefit the agency extends.

Bringing government services closer to every OFW and their family, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Office Vill, represented by OIC-Regional Director Arlene F. Salloman and Family Welfare Officer Ms. Jelly R. Patalagan formalized a Memorandum of Agreement with the Local Government Unit of Isabel, Leyte on May 19, 2026 with Municipal Mayor Atty. Benjamin S. Pongos, Jr., Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Adam Fuentes, Municipal Legal Officer Atty. John Raphael S. Caracuel, and PESO Manager Godfrey T. Alcantara signing on behalf of the LGU.
The Memorandum of Agreement marks a significant step in strengthening the collaboration between OWWA and the local government reaffirming the agency's commitment to bringing its programs and services closer to OFW heroes and their families in Isabel and the surrounding communities of Leyte.
Through this partnership, OWWA and the LGU of Isabel are poised to work hand in hand in ensuring that every OFW and their family receives the support, protection, and opportunities they deserve.

Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and sustainable reintegration of returning Overseas Filipino Workers, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration - Regional Welfare Office VIII facilitated the release of Balik-Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) livelihood assistance checks at the OWWA Regional Welfare Office VIll on May 18, 2026, benefiting a total of twenty-one (21) OFW returnees from Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar, and Ormoc.
Before the formal release of checks, Family Welfare Officer Mr. Zoren C. Deguerio led an orientation on basic bookkeeping and cash flow management, equipping the beneficiaries with the foundational knowledge needed to responsibly handle their livelihood assistance. The session covered practical approaches to tracking income and expenses, as well as managing cash flow to ensure the longevity and growth of their livelihood ventures.
The program concluded with the successful distribution of checks to twenty-one (21) OFW availees, ten (10) from Southern Leyte, seven (7) from Ormoc, and four (4) from Eastern Samar, each one taking a meaningtul step toward rebuilding their lives and livelihoods.
Through initiatives such as these, OWWA RWO VIII continues to stand beside every returning OFW, ensuring that the transition back home is met not only with financial assistance, but with the guidance and support needed to thrive.

Building on the momentum of Day 1, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Office VIII gathered once again on May 08, 2026, at Casa Marcos Resort and Villas in Pastrana, Leyte, this time channeling their energy into a full day of team building activities.
Through a series of engaging and collaborative activities, OWWA Region VIII staff were brought together in the spirit of communication, camaraderie, and shared purpose, reinforcing the principle that a team that works well together, serves better together.
The activities served more than just a break from the day-to-day demands of public service. They were a reminder that the strength of OWWA Region VIII lies not only in its programs and services, but in the people who carry them out for the welfare of every OFW and their family.

Investing in the people behind the service, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Office VIII launched its much awaited Staff Development Activity on May 07, 2026, at Casa Marcos Resort and Villas in Pastrana, Leyte, opening the day with a focus on health, wellness, and celebrating the best of its team.
Day 1 featured an orientation on the Philhealth YAKAP program, Led by Resource Person Dr. Claudette Hazel E. Esic, the session equipped every OWWA Region VIII staff members with the knowledge to better access and maximize this benefit, a timely reminder that before one can serve others well, one must also take care of themselves.
Capping off the day on a high note, Ms. Mary Stephen Palejaro and Mr. Jimfred Pilapil were crowned Mr. & Ms. OWWA Region VIII, embodying the values that OWWA stands for.
Through initiatives like this OWWA Region VIII reaffirms that behind every service rendered is a team that is well, united, and truly ready to serve every OFW and their family.
