For educators in the woodworking industry, learning modern finishing techniques is not only about improving craftsmanship, it is about equipping future learners with skills that create products people will actually buy.
This became one of the key takeaways during the Wood Finishing Training conducted by the Department of Science and Technology โ Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI)
The training covered proper finishing systems, application techniques, equipment maintenance, and safety practices, complemented by hands-on exercises on surface preparation, sealing, and top coating.
For educators, mastering these techniques is essential in teaching learners how to transform ordinary wood pieces into durable, visually appealing, and market-ready products. Proper finishing not only enhances appearance but also increases product value and competitiveness in the woodworking industry.
By exposing teachers to industry-based technologies and standards, the training helps ensure that future woodworkers are equipped with practical skills aligned with real market demands, allowing creativity, craftsmanship, and science to come together in producing wood pieces that truly sell.

Ready or notโฆ the cha-cha shoes are coming out this weekend! โจ
After an overwhelming wave of excitement during the INDAK orientation, the much-awaited practicum sessions for the pioneering batch of senior citizens officially begin this May 30, kicking off five fun-filled weekends of dancing, laughter, movement, memory exercises, and meaningful social connection.
From tentative first steps to confident twirls, participants are set to discover that brain exercise does not always happen sitting down โ sometimes, it starts with a cha-cha beat, a salsa sway, and a whole lot of smiling. ๐บ๐
The INDAK or โDance for the Brainโ sessions will also serve as the live practicum training ground for DOST Scholar Trainees majoring in Psychology, who are currently undergoing intensive mentorship under certified INDAK trainers from the UP Diliman Sports Science Department. After completing the month-long rigorous practicum and evaluation, scholars who pass the program will graduate as certified INDAK Dementia Care Specialists.
Because in INDAK, growing older does not mean slowing downโฆ it simply means dancing smarter. ๐๐ง

In the woodworking industry, proper finishing is more than just aesthetics, it is a competitive advantage that enhances product quality, durability, and market value.
To help local enterprises improve their craftsmanship and product competitiveness, the Department of Science and Technology โ Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) conducted a Wood Finishing Training on May 25โ26, 2026, at C&G Arts and Crafts Trading in Pondol, Loon, Bohol.
The training equipped participants with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience on proper wood finishing techniques, including surface preparation, sealing, top coating, equipment maintenance, and safety practices. Participants personally performed the step-by-step finishing process to better understand the importance of precision and consistency in achieving premium-quality finishes.
According to Mr. Glendo Lauron, owner of C&G Arts and Crafts Trading, the training is a valuable opportunity to improve their products and production quality.
Through science-based capability-building initiatives, DOST-FPRDI continues to empower local MSMEs with technologies and skills that help them produce higher-value, market-ready woodcraft products.

Before a single step lands on the floor, Tango begins with listening through movement, rhythm, and awareness. In INDAK, it becomes more than a ballroom dance. It is a living conversation between mind, body, and connection.
Unlike ordinary exercise routines that rely on repetitive movement, Tango keeps the brain awake. Participants anticipate direction, remember patterns, interpret cues, and respond with precision and control. Every deliberate pause sharpens attention. Every step strengthens balance, coordination, and concentration. What appears graceful on the dance floor is, in truth, a cognitive exercise woven into art.
But perhaps Tangoโs greatest beauty lies in how it makes people feel. Through music and movement, older adults reconnect with rhythm, memory, and human connection. Tango becomes a form of healing. It stimulates participants to feel deeply, respond sensitively, and listen not only with their ears, but with their whole body.
This experience does not end with Tango alone. Dances such as Bachata, Swing, and Salsa extend the same principle in different rhythms and energies, each contributing to memory, coordination, and social engagement in distinct ways.

Behind every step, and every rhythm in INDAK is the heart of the program: to help older adults reconnect with memory, dignity, and community.
โIndakโ reflects the essence of the program. The rhythmic movement, swaying, and dancing are expressions of joy, coordination, and life. Through ballroom dances like Bachata and Swing, older adults are guided to move with rhythm and confidence under trained guidance. Beyond dance lies deeper meaning. Each movement strengthens memory, attention, balance, and decision-making, while music and social interaction awaken emotional connection and awareness.
At its core, INDAK believes that growing old should never mean losing purpose, dignity, or hope. Every step taken in rhythm is a reminder that life continues to be meaningful, and that every older adult deserves care that reaches not only the body, but also the heart.
