Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science Education with a specialization in Physics (BSciE-Physics) degree at the Philippine Normal University (PNU, Manila) set forth to their final year as they accomplished a 160-hour Summer Science Internship. They have put forth onto one of the upcoming benchmark programs of the Mass Section under the supervision of their Head, Mr. Kiveen P. Suycano together with Mr. Jessie G. Yap and Mr. Argielou A. Flores where they were trained to calibrate, test, and analyze the data gathered.

As part of their internship requirements, they were tasked to create a training module and video animation regarding Verification of Market Scales tailored for the Local Government Unit (LGU). This special project aims to improve the development and delivery of National Metrology Laboratory's training courses. The PNU interns presented their output to the personnel of the National Metrology Laboratory (NML) and Technological Services Division (TSD) on September 14, 2023.

The NML looks forward to future partnerships and projects with the PNU, the National Center for Teacher Education, as its partner in metrology education throughout the country, and to continue embodying science literacy through truth, excellence, and service!

Participants from various companies and government offices gathered at the National Metrology Laboratory's Almanzor Hall on September 6 -7, 2023 to take part in a two-day weights calibration training course based on OIML R 111-1. The said event was headed by Mr. Kiveen P. Suycano, Senior Science Research Specialist, and Mr. Jessie G. Yap, Science Research Specialist I.

Day one focuses on discussing various concepts and ideas about how calibration works, and day two provides participants with the opportunity to gain hands-on and practical experience with the instruments, which is also part of their initial assessment in the training.

Furthermore, participants also had the opportunity to visit the mass standard section's laboratory, which provided them with firsthand knowledge of how things work at the facility.

The training was held on August 1-2, 2023. The training course provided participants from different companies, with information regarding testing procedures for calibrating single range, electronic NAWI (Laboratory Scales).

On top of that, the participants had the chance to calibrate non-automatic weighing instruments (NAWI). This gave them the opportunity to see how various tests operate and gain practical experience with the instruments.

The second day of the training course provided participants understanding of determining measurement uncertainty, as well as how to interpret calibration contents and execute intermediate checking for NAWI.

In addition to the lectures, participants visited the mass section's laboratory for a tour, which provided them a visual overview of the facility and helped them identify the key instruments and methods utilized there.
