WELCOME ABOARD, BRP RAJAH LAKANDULA

In connection with 128th Independence Day of the Philippines, ALPHA DART Company, 3rd RRIBn personnel with their dependents visited the newly commissioned offshore patrol vessel (OPV) BRP Rajah Lakandula (PS-21) at Commo Divino Pier, Naval Station Jose Andrada, Headquarters Philippine Navy, Manila on June 11, 2026.

The Philippine Navy personnel warmly welcomed our Army Reservists, from the moment they stepped in the gangway, during orientation at multi-purpose hall and aboard PS-21. All crew of the said vessel shared their knowledge and expertise in each major departments of the ship as well as armaments installed in that vessel.

This one-day shipboard tour aboard BRP Rajah Lakandula (PS-21) ( the Philippine Navyโ€™s state-of-the-art Rajah Sulayman class OPV), is a highly valuable and strategic opportunity for Philippine Army Reservists.

This is advancing the "One AFP" Joint Force Concept. Modern warfare and territorial defense demand seamless joint operations between different branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). By stepping out of the traditional land-domain mindset, our Army reservists gain a first-hand understanding of naval operations, bridging the gap between land-based defense and maritime sovereignty.

With the BRP Rajah Lakandula slated for critical maritime security deployments (such as in the West Philippine Sea), this tour gives reservists a clear picture of the frontlines. It emphasizes "WHY" a strong, multi-capable reserve force is vital for total national defense, connecting their grassroots training to high-stakes national security.

This tour is also an advantage and a way of exposure to AFP Modernization. Experiencing one of the navy's newest assets allows our Army reservists to witness the tangible progress of the AFP Modernization Program. Seeing advanced military technology up close builds immense institutional pride.

Furthermore, our Reservists learn the basics of naval terminology, watchstanding, and how a 2,400-ton modern vessel operates. The tour also provides them direct exposure to cutting-edge military hardware, including the Leonardo 76mm Super Rapid main gun, the Aselsan SMASH 30mm remote weapon system, and advanced combat management systems.

They also learn how naval assets support land operations such as coastal defense, amphibious tracking, and maritime surveillance, making them more effective during joint-force exercises or actual mobilization.

Over-all impact, this activity boosted the morale and readiness of our Army Reservists. Stepping aboard a brand-new, frontline warship acts as a powerful motivator. It enhances their sense of duty, leaving them better prepared, highly inspired, and more capable of answering the call of national defense whenever and wherever they are needed. "Laang Kawal, Kahit Saan, Kahit Kailan,Handang Maglingkod Para sa Diyos at Bayan", as our former Commanding Officer said, the late CPT ROMMEL "Rocky' MARQUEZ INF PA.

The invaluable support of our inspirational leaders also made this activity possible: COL FERDINAND REY G GA MNSA (ART) PA, NCRRCDG Group Commander,
COL ABARAHAM GALLANGI JR GSC (INF) PA, 1303CDC Director,
and LTC NELSON O LUNA GSC (ART) PA (RES), 3RRIBn Commander.
Snappiest salute and gratitude is given to these gentlemen and officers.
