FORMER INSURGENT YIELDS TO PNP; FIREARM AND EXPLOSIVE DEVICE RECOVERED
The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., facilitated the surrender of a former Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) member and the turnover of a firearm and an explosive device as part of the peace and security efforts of Police Regional Office 8. The activity was conducted at the Headquarters of the 2nd Leyte Provincial Mobile Force Company in Brgy. Cristina, Calubian, Leyte, on May 28, 2026.
The surrenderer, known by the alias “Erik,” a 49-year-old Filipino male from Carigara, Leyte, was formerly affiliated with the Buhawi Platoon under the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee, which operated in selected areas of Leyte. His peaceful surrender was achieved through sustained intelligence monitoring and enhanced engagement efforts by personnel from the 2nd LPMFC, Provincial Intelligence Unit, Regional Intelligence Unit 8, 805th Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 8, and the Calubian Municipal Police Station.
During the turnover, he surrendered one caliber .38 revolver without serial markings, three rounds of ammunition, and one hand gr***de. He likewise expressed his withdrawal from armed participation and his intent to return to peaceful civilian life. The surrendered items and the individual are now under the custody of the 2nd LPMFC for proper documentation, safekeeping, and evaluation for possible enrollment in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. emphasized that sustained engagement and operational initiatives remain essential in encouraging individuals involved in armed movements to abandon violence and reintegrate into society.
“Every successful surrender is a result of continuous effort on the ground to reach those who have long been influenced by armed struggle. We remain committed to bringing peace closer to every community,” said PGEN Nartatez.
“Hindi namin isinasara ang pagkakataon para sa mga nais magbagong-buhay. Ang bawat desisyong magbalik-loob ay mahalagang hakbang tungo sa kapayapaan at kaayusan,” he added.
The development reflects the PNP Focused Agenda, a transformation framework designed to enhance police service delivery and strengthen community trust. Among its key priorities is Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which supports effective operational responses and intelligence-driven actions that contribute to successful peacebuilding efforts, such as the surrender of CTG members.
“We continue to strengthen our operational efforts while maintaining strong community engagement to ensure lasting peace in conflict-affected areas,” PGEN Nartatez said.
“Kapag pinagsama ang malasakit at tamang direksyon, mas nagiging posible ang tunay na pagbabago. Patuloy ang aming panawagan sa lahat na piliin ang mapayapang pamumuhay,” he added.
As the PNP continues to intensify peace and reintegration initiatives under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it assures the public of its commitment to “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman.”

Fake SAF Trooper Arrested for Illegal Use of Uniform and Illegal
Possession of Firearm in Talavera Checkpoint Operation
The Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP SAF) underscores its unwavering commitment to integrity and public safety following the recent apprehension of an individual falsely representing the elite unit. The unauthorized wearing of SAF uniforms, insignias, and identity is a serious legal violation that undermines the honor and dedication of SAF personnel
who silently sacrifice for the nation.
This reminder follows a successful checkpoint operation in Brgy. San Miguel na Munti, Talavera, Nueva Ecija, on May 25, 2026, which led to the arrest of a male suspect found wearing clothing bearing PNP SAF logo and markings while illegally carrying a loaded firearm. It must be clarified that the clothing worn by the suspect was not an authorized PNP SAF uniform and was unlawfully used to falsely claim affiliation with the unit.
The PNP SAF fully supports local police authorities in ensuring that appropriate criminal charges are filed swiftly against the suspect.
To maintain peace and order, the PNP SAF reassures the public that only official, active-duty personnel are authorized to wear the unit’s uniform and carry issued fi****ms.
The community is kindly encouraged to remain vigilant and immediately report any individuals falsely claiming affiliation with the PNP SAF or other law enforcement agencies. Through the strong partnership between the police and the community, we can effectively prevent criminal activities and preserve the mutual trust that keeps our community safe.
