DMMME warmly welcomed students from the UP Baguio BS Physics program for a study tour and laboratory visit. Prof. Giovanni M. Malapit led the team as students explored DMMME's research facilities, laboratory capabilities, and ongoing research activities.
The visit was also made possible through the collaboration with Dr. Arantxa Danielle S. Montallana under the DOST Balik Scientist Program, with UP Baguio serving as one of her host institutions.
The study tour gave students firsthand exposure to advanced materials research, laboratory techniques, and the diverse applications of physics in materials engineering and emerging technologies. It also strengthened the partnership between the two CUs and opened opportunities for future collaboration in research, education, and innovation.
We thank Dr. Malapit, Dr. Montallana, the UP Baguio BS Physics students, and everyone who made this meaningful academic and research exchange possible.

DOST backs Filipino scientists returning home to strengthen research and innovation

DAVAO CITY — Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. highlighted the agency’s continued support for Filipino scientists and experts who wish to return to the Philippines and share their knowledge through the DOST Balik Scientist Program. He emphasized that the program opens opportunities for Filipino experts abroad to partner with local universities and research institutions, whether through collaborative engagements or long-term return to the country.
Secretary Solidum noted that these Filipino scientists bring new ideas, advanced expertise, and valuable knowledge gained from their experiences abroad, which can help strengthen local research and development capabilities, foster innovation, and contribute to science-driven solutions for national development.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the University of Mindanao (UM) gathered for the Balik Scientist Program (BSP) Exit Report Presentation of Dr. Angelo Bañares and the official Grand Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing of DOST-Approved R&D Projects held September 1, 2026 at the University of Mindanao-Matina Campus, Davao City.

These innovative projects aim to transform agricultural ang mining waste, protect local ecosystems and create sustainable solutions for communities.
