MARITIME SECURITY SYMPOSIUM 2023 | On May 9, 2023, ORC personnel attended the Maritime Security Symposium 2023 with the theme “ASEAN at the Forefront: Emphasizing ASEAN's Perspective, Highlighting its Strength”.

The Maritime Security Symposium is an annual convening of maritime sector stakeholders hosted by the Philippine Navy and organized by the Office of Naval Strategic Studies and Strategy Management in partnership with the 17th ASEAN Navy Chiefs' Meeting (ANCM).

TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY | On May 11, 1956, Filipino adventurer and fishing magnate Tomás Cloma took formal possession of the islands lying some 380 miles west of the southern end of Palawan and named them “Freedomland” - which is presently known as the Kalayaan Group of Islands.

Notwithstanding the maritime disputes over the said islands, the Philippines - on June 11, 1978 - formally annexed the islands creating a distinct and separate Municipality known as “Kalayaan” under the political jurisdiction of the Province of Palawan by virtue of Presidential Decree No.1596 signed by President Marcos.

TEAM BUILDING | From May 5 to 7, 2023, Team ORC conducted a Team Building Activity to foster camaraderie among its personnel and improve their social and professional skills. The activity was designed to enhance productivity and collaboration in the workplace.

Research shows that team building activities offer numerous benefits for organizations. A study entitled "Behavior and Organization” identifies many benefits as a result of utilizing team building activities; including interdependence, increased job satisfaction, improved working relationships, conflict resolution, and effective communication.

PHILIPPINE LABOR FORCE SITUATION The Labor Force Survey (LFS) - a nationwide survey conducted quarterly by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), provided the unemployment rate of the Philippines for the month of February 2023 through this visual. The service sector remained the top employer in February with an employment rate of 59.6% of the total population, followed by agriculture at 24.1% and industry at 16.3%.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ENHANCEMENT | The Operations Research Center, Philippine Army (ORCPA) conducted an in-house training regarding the basic knowledge and skills on photo and video editing on April 28, 2023.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) NCO Pvt Maria Joana S Camarao facilitated the training and was attended by the enlisted personnel and civilian human resources of the Center.

ARAW NG MGA MANGGAGAWA | The men and women of the Operations Research Center, Philippine Army (ORCPA) are one with the nation in commemoration of the Labor Day.
