๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ง๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: The key difference between a ๐๐๐๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ and a ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ๐ฒ lies in their forecast period, coverage areas, and accuracy. A ๐๐๐๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ provides forecasts for the next three hours and applies up to the municipal level. It is more precise as it utilizes Doppler radar technology to track real-time rainfall intensity, making it highly effective for immediate decision-making in flood-prone areas. A ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ๐ฒ, on the other hand, covers a 24-hour period but is issued only at the provincial level. It provides a broader outlook on potential weather disturbances but lacks the short-term accuracy of ๐๐๐๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ. For class suspensions or other official decisions, please refer to ๐๐๐๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ issued by the respective PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.

PRESS RELEASE
DOST-PAGASA S&T Media Service
Quezon City, 30 May 2026
START OF THE SOUTHWEST MONSOON
Ahead of the possible onset of the rainy season, the DOST-PAGASA officially announces the start of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat over the Philippines, which is one of the precursors of the onset of the rainy season.
As Habagat becomes the dominant weather system, occasional to frequent rains and thunderstorms are expected, particularly over the western sections of the country. These conditions may signal the possible onset of the rainy season in the coming days.
However, there may be rain breaks that last a few days or weeks, known as monsoon breaks.
