Ms. Mae Angelica Famini of DOST Romblon formally took her oath as Supervising Science Research Specialist during an oath-taking ceremony officiated by DOST-MIMAROPA Regional Director Dr. Bernardo N. Sepeda.

The occasion marks a significant milestone in her public service career and reflects her dedication, professionalism, and valuable contributions to advancing science, technology, and innovation in the region.

DOST-MIMAROPA extends its warmest congratulations and wishes her continued success as she assumes her new role and responsibilities in service to the Filipino people.

As the Scholars Leadership Camp 2026 came to a close, MIMAROPA scholars celebrated their graduation after an enriching journey centered on the core values of Professional Excellence, Social Responsibility, and Servant Leadership.

Through engaging discussions, meaningful activities, and inspiring stories from speakers and fellow scholars, participants strengthened their commitment to lead with integrity, serve with purpose, and create positive impact in their communities.

On the final day of the Scholars Leadership Camp, through the insights shared by Prof. Michael Charleston “Xiao” Chua, the inspiring testimonies of invited alumni scholars, and various meaningful activities, MIMAROPA scholars reflected on the essence of Servant Leadership, understanding that true leadership is rooted in service, humility, and a commitment to uplifting others.

Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall.

The public disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measure to protect life and property. PAGASA Regional Services Divisions may issue Heavy Rainfall Warnings/Thunderstorms Advisories, and other severe weather information specific to their areas of responsibility as appropriate.

Unless significant changes occur, the next Weather Advisory will be issued at 5:00 AM tomorrow.

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The key difference between a 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 and a 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 lies in their forecast period, coverage areas, and accuracy. A 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 provides forecasts for the next three hours and applies up to the municipal level. It is more precise as it utilizes Doppler radar technology to track real-time rainfall intensity, making it highly effective for immediate decision-making in flood-prone areas. A 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲, on the other hand, covers a 24-hour period but is issued only at the provincial level. It provides a broader outlook on potential weather disturbances but lacks the short-term accuracy of 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. For class suspensions or other official decisions, please refer to 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 issued by the respective PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.

As DOST scholars, you will receive the following support:
✅ Php 8,000 monthly stipend
✅ Php 40,000/year tuition support (for private institutions)
✅ Php 10,000/year learning materials or connectivity support
✅ Php 1,000 clothing allowance (one-time)
✅ Php 10,000 thesis allowance
✅ Php 1,000 graduation allowance
✅ One round-trip economy-class fare per year (for out-of-province studies)

• Qualifiers with an asterisk (*) beside their name are subject to revalidation of information/documents. Some names have also been temporarily withheld pending submission of required documentation. Concerned applicants will receive further instructions from DOST-MIMAROPA.

On the 2nd Day of the Scholars Leadership Camp, MIMAROPA scholars deepened their understanding of Social Responsibility as they recognize the vital role they play not only as future professionals, but also as catalysts of positive change in their communities.

Through meaningful discussions, collaborative activities, and inspiring insights from guest speakers, scholars were encouraged to lead with empathy, integrity, and a strong sense of purpose.

The camp is led by the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) in collaboration with DOST – MIMAROPA.

START OF THE SOUTHWEST MONSOON

Ahead of the possible onset of the rainy season, the DOST-PAGASA officially announces the start of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat over the Philippines, which is one of the precursors of the onset of the rainy season.

As Habagat becomes the dominant weather system, occasional to frequent rains and thunderstorms are expected, particularly over the western sections of the country. These conditions may signal the possible onset of the rainy season in the coming days.

However, there may be rain breaks that last a few days or weeks, known as monsoon breaks.
