Representing PERPI as one of the resource speakers, Engr. Shawn Zedrick Taguiling shared insights from PERPIโ€™s ๐†๐š๐ฉ ๐€๐ง๐š๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ ๐จ๐ง ๐Ž๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ซ๐ž ๐–๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ: ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐‘๐ž๐ ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐…๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค. His presentation highlighted the countryโ€™s estimated 178 GW offshore wind potential, its contribution to the renewable energy targets under the Philippine Energy Plan 2023โ€“2050, and key policy and regulatory developments supporting the growth of the offshore wind sector.

The consultation brought together representatives from government agencies, academe, civil society organizations, fisherfolk groups, local government units (LGUs), private sector stakeholders, environmental advocates, and community leaders to discuss the opportunities, challenges, and governance considerations surrounding offshore wind development in the Bicol Region.

Organized under the banner โ€œDUROS,โ€ a Bicol term meaning โ€œwind,โ€ the activity underscored Bicolโ€™s growing importance in the countryโ€™s renewable energy transition, particularly with the proposed offshore wind projects in Camarines Sur and San Miguel Bay. Discussions emphasized the need to balance renewable energy development with the protection of marine ecosystems, fisherfolk livelihoods, local governance rights, and long-term environmental sustainability.

Good news for motorists! Fuel prices are set to go down this week after several weeks of continuous increases.

According to the Department of Energy (DOE), the rollback brings fuel prices closer to pre-war levels, providing some relief to consumers and transport operators.

While global events, particularly in the Middle East, continue to affect oil prices, the latest adjustment reflects improving conditions in the international oil market.

Consumers are advised to check their local fuel stations, as prices may vary by company and location.

Fuel prices are expected to increase this week starting May 26.

Diesel may go up by โ‚ฑ1.00 to โ‚ฑ1.30 per liter, while gasoline could rise by โ‚ฑ1.20 to โ‚ฑ1.50 per liter, based on industry estimates.

According to an industry source, the expected increases are driven by higher global crude oil prices and persistent supply constraints, particularly in Asia, where refiners continue to face difficulties in securing feedstock.

Gasoline prices are likewise being pushed higher by tight global supply conditions, as reduced production in Europe redirects supply flows to other regions, while stronger demand from the United States builds ahead of the peak summer driving season.
