Seven Former Rebels Surrender, Boost Peace Efforts in San Jose de Buan
Seven former members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered to authorities in San Jose de Buan, Samar on 29 May 2026, marking another significant milestone in the government's peace and security campaign.
Through the sustained peace-building initiatives of the 87th Infantry (Hinirang) Battalion, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of San Jose de Buan and other stakeholders, the former rebels turned over three high-powered fi****ms, ammunition, magazines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and anti-personnel mines.
The surrender highlights the growing success of efforts to encourage CTG members to abandon armed struggle and embrace peaceful reintegration into society. The returnees will receive support through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and the Local Social Integration Program (LSIP), helping them rebuild their lives and become productive members of their communities.
The latest surrender strengthens peace and security in Samar, reduces the CTGâs capabilities, and brings communities closer to a safer and more peaceful future.

Government Forces Recover CTG Arms Cache in Samar
Joint troops from the 87th Infantry Battalion and the 804th Maneuver Company, RMFB8, recovered an abandoned arms cache belonging to the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Sitio Galutan, Brgy. Can-aponte, San Jose de Buan, Samar on May 29, 2026.
The operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two M16A1 rifles, one M203 gr***de launcher, and several magazines, preventing these weapons from being used to threaten communities and disrupt development efforts.
Authorities successfully conducted the operation through information provided by former rebels and local residents, demonstrating increasing community support for government peace initiatives and rejection of the CTG's armed struggle.
The recovery further highlights the CTG's declining capability and influence as more communities embrace peace, security, and development in Samar.
