Ambassador Johann Brieger attended a special evening event at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Headquarters in Manila on 21 September, celebrating the longstanding partnership between ADB and Europe and the 30th anniversary of the European Representative Office (ERO).

The event featured the inauguration of a photo gallery exhibition highlighting 60 years of partnership between ADB and Europe, coinciding with ADB’s 60th anniversary in 2026.

Austrian 🇦🇹 companies also took part in the ADB Business Opportunities Fair, connecting with partners and exploring opportunities for cooperation in the region.

The Austrian Embassy is pleased to support stronger links between Austrian business and development partners in Asia!

👩🏻‍🍳 A day of learning, Austrian flavors, and meaningful connections at the Austrian Ambassador’s Residence. ✨

H.E. Johann Brieger and Mme. Roswitha Brieger welcomed Sr. Elena Belarmino and the students of the Sisters of Mary Girlstown for a special cooking session at the Residence.

Guided by Mme. Brieger and the Residence’s Chef, the students learned how to prepare a three-course Austrian meal, set the table, and experience the care, teamwork, and joy that go into preparing and sharing a meal. 🍽️

The cooking session was followed by lunch with Mr. Carlos Rufino and Mme. Stella Rufino, whose longstanding connection with the Sisters of Mary made their presence especially meaningful. Together, everyone gathered around the table to enjoy the Austrian dishes prepared by the students and share a memorable afternoon of conversation and connection.

The occasion also provided an opportunity to highlight the Sisters of Mary and their commitment to providing young people with education, practical skills, and opportunities to build a better future. 📚

Rare 19th-century treasures connected to Dr. José Rizal and Austrian scholar Ferdinand Blumentritt have been donated to the National Museum of the Philippines by Elke Pickert, a descendant of Blumentritt from Kufstein,Austria. 🇦🇹🇵🇭

The enduring friendship between Rizal and Blumentritt reminds us that Austria–Philippines ties have deep roots in friendship, culture, and intellectual exchange—long before formal diplomatic relations!

On 17 September 2026, Ambassador Johann Brieger conferred the Decoration of Honor in Gold for services to the Republic Austria upon Mr. Wolfgang Gmasz, former Deputy Head of Mission and Consul of the Austrian Embassy in Manila, in recognition of his 41 years of dedicated and distinguished service to the Austrian Foreign Ministry.

Mr. Gmasz's posting in Manila marked the final chapter of his diplomatic career, which concluded his service with the Austrian Foreign Ministry upon his retirement. During his time in the Philippines, he contributed to strengthening Austria–Philippines relations and served with dedication and distinction. 🇦🇹🤝🇵🇭

The Embassy extends its warmest congratulations and deepest appreciation for this remarkable milestone of commendable service to Austria. Herzliche Gratulation! 🎖️🇦🇹

H.E. Johann Brieger, Ambassador of Austria to the Philippines, joined the fireside dialogue at 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝: 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 on 8 September 2026 at Manila House, Bonifacio Global City.

Ambassador Brieger shared Austria’s perspective on the Philippines as a destination for 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞, 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, highlighting the experience of Austrian company 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 and its manufacturing operations in Mindanao.
