MetroMAARRDEC trains researchers to communicate agriculture and fisheries science to Filipino communities

6 October 2026 — Researchers, extension personnel, and science communicators from Metro Manila Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research, Development and Extension Consortium (MetroMAARRDEC) member institutions gathered at Bayview Park Hotel Manila for the Training-Workshop on Effective Communication of Science and Technology to Agriculture and Fisheries Communities.

Spearheaded by the Capacity Building and Science Communication Cluster, the workshop focused on helping participants communicate research, technologies, and innovations in ways that people can understand, relate to, and use.

Resource persons Mr. Jorge Cyril N. Viray and Ms. Rosemarie A. De Castro of the DOST-PCAARRD Applied Communications Division led sessions on understanding audiences, crafting effective messages, choosing the right communication channels, integrating GAD perspectives, and developing sustainable communication plans.

Through hands-on activities, participants identified their audiences, set communication goals, developed key messages, and planned how to share their research and innovations more effectively—because science creates greater impact when people can understand it, see its value, and apply it in their everyday lives.

Ultimately, the workshop strengthened a shared commitment: to bring research and innovation closer to the communities they are meant to serve and turn knowledge into meaningful action.

HANDA PILIPINAS Caravan in NCR 2nd Leg para sa mas handa at mas ligtas na NCR

Mula San Juan hanggang Makati, patuloy na inilalapit ng DOST-NCR, kasama ang mga katuwang na lokal na pamahalaan at institusyon, ang agham, teknolohiya, at inobasyon sa mga komunidad sa pamamagitan ng HANDA PILIPINAS CARAVAN IN NCR.

Sa ikalawang bahagi ng Caravan, nagkaroon ng pagkakataon ang mga San Juaneño at Makatizen na matuto mula sa mga eksperto ng DOST-PAGASA, DOST-PHIVOLCS, DOST-PNRI, DOST-FNRI, at DOST-ITDI tungkol sa iba’t ibang panganib at sakuna—mula sa bagyo, malalakas na ulan, thunderstorms, pagbaha, storm surge, at matinding init, hanggang sa lindol, El Niño, kaligtasan laban sa radiation, at wastong nutrisyon at kaligtasan ng pagkain sa panahon ng sakuna.

Hindi lamang kaalaman ang hatid ng Caravan. Ipinakilala rin ang mga praktikal na teknolohiya, kagamitan, at impormasyong nakabatay sa agham na makatutulong sa bawat isa na mas maagang makapaghanda, makaiwas sa panganib, at makagawa ng tamang hakbang bago, habang, at pagkatapos ng sakuna.

Lubos ang aming pasasalamat sa lahat ng nakilahok sa mga talakayan, bumisita sa mga exhibit, nagtanong, nakinig, at nagbahagi ng kanilang mga karanasan. Maraming salamat din sa ating mga partner LGUs, institutions, speakers, at exhibitors na naging bahagi ng matagumpay na pagsasagawa ng Caravan.

Sa bawat kaalamang natutuhan at teknolohiyang natuklasan, mas napapalakas natin ang kakayahan ng bawat pamilya at komunidad na harapin ang mga hamon ng sakuna. Dahil ang pagiging handa ay nagsisimula sa pag-alam, pag-unawa, at sama-samang pagkilos.

PLAY SMART & GAME RESPONSIBLY: Students Explore Careers in the Growing GameTech Industry Through GameTech QC 🎮🕹️👾

The GameTech QC: Campus Takeover brought industry insights, career inspiration, and hands-on learning to the students of Eugenio M. Lopez Jr. Center for Media Arts Senior High School on 29 September 2026, through a collaborative awareness campaign workshop in partnership with the Quezon City LEDIPO.

The activity introduced students to the diverse opportunities within the gaming industry ecosystem, highlighting not only the technical aspects of game development but also the business, industry, and government perspectives that drive the growth of game development today.

Industry experts shared their knowledge, experiences, and career journeys with participants, providing valuable insights into the ever-evolving gaming sector:

🎮 Mr. Lord Christian Gosingtian of the Game Developers Association of the Philippines - GDAP discussed the overview and career pathways in game development and the local game industry;
🖥️ Mr. Jesse Tan of PC Express shared entrepreneurial perspectives on gaming development, hardware, and the broader gaming ecosystem; and
🚀 Mr. Warren Gomez of DOST-NCR highlighted government initiatives and responsible use of games that support aspiring game developers and innovators.

As part of the workshop, students were also given the opportunity to experience and play games developed by the student finalists of the Gear Up NCR: Esports Game Dev Challenge:

By bringing industry professionals and student developers closer to the next generation of creators, GameTech QC continues to spark interest in emerging careers and empower young Filipinos to transform their passion for gaming into opportunities for innovation, creativity, and future employment.

Turning Young Learners into Circular Innovators! ♻️⭐

The DOST-NCR brought DOST-NCR’s ReCIRCLE Campaign to the Immaculate Conception Academy-Greenhills, San Juan City on September 25 as part of the school’s Environmental Awareness Celebration.

Through an interactive session, young learners discovered circularity practices by choosing to reuse, repair, recycle, and make things last longer and minimize wastes. From refillable containers and composting to donating old items and repurposing plastic bottles, students learned that small everyday choices can make a difference.

The activity is part of DOST-NCR CITIES360 Program’s ReCIRCLE Campaign, an awareness initiative that introduces students to circular economy concepts and helps them understand how everyday choices can contribute to conserving resources.
