The DRMC Women and Children Protection Unit (WCPU)successfully conducted the 2-Day ENTHAWC Enhanced Training on Handling Abused Women and Children on October 1–2, 2026, at DRMC.

With the guidance of Dr. Emilie D. Ugdang, WCPU Head and the valuable contributions of our speakers, experts and, WCPU Staff, the training brought together dedicated DRMC participants committed to providing compassionate, trauma-informed care. 🌱

Thank you to all participants for your active participation and willingness to learn. May this knowledge help us better listen, understand, protect, and heal.

On September 9, 2026, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Renewal Signing Ceremony between the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC), PNP Davao de Oro, and PNP Davao del Norte was successfully held at the MCC Lounge, Davao Regional Medical Center.

The activity was spearheaded by Dr. Emilie D. Ugdang, WCPU Head, together with the dedicated staff of the Women and Children Protection Unit (WCPU). The ceremony was graced by the presence of:

• Dr. Bryan O. Dalid, MD, MAHA, FPCS, FPSGS, FPALES, FSOSP – Medical Center Chief II, Davao Regional Medical Center
• Mr. Edilberto L. Bundalo, MPA – Finance Division Head, Davao Regional Medical Center
• PCOL Glenn G. Cristines – Provincial Director, Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office
• PCOL Cesario D. Dukiling, Jr. – Provincial Director, Davao de Oro Police Provincial Office

This renewal of partnership reaffirms the commitment of DRMC WCPU and the PNP to strengthen collaboration, coordination, and referral mechanisms in providing responsive and comprehensive protection and support services to women and children affected by violence and abuse.

✨ Strengthening Partnerships for the Protection of Women and Children ✨

Today, September 3, 2026, the Women and Children Protection Unit (WCPU) of Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC), headed by Dr. Emilie D. Ugdang, together with Dr. Nelda Beatriz Romana T. Chua, PSMS April Joy Prieto, PMSG Mherychris Coronel, and PCMS Jovy Vargas, conducted a Courtesy Visit and Presentation of Training Programs with Women in Uniform.

The activity was followed by the Renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Philippine National Police (PNP) Davao del Norte and DRMC-WCPU, reaffirming our shared commitment to strengthening collaboration, capacity-building, and coordinated responses in protecting women and children.

The activity was graced by the presence of PCOL Glenn G. Cristines, Provincial Director of the Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office.

Strengthening Partnerships for the Protection of Women and Children 🤝💙

Today, September 2, 2026, the Women and Children Protection Unit (WCPU) of Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC), headed by Dr. Emilie D. Ugdang, together with Dr. Nelda Beatriz Romana T. Chua, PCMS Jovy Vargas, and PSMS Sheryl Buladaco, conducted a Courtesy Visit and Presentation of Training Programs with Women in Uniform, followed by the Renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the PNP Davao de Oro and DRMC-WCPU.

The activity was graced by the presence of PCOL Cesario D. Dukiling Jr., Provincial Director of the Davao de Oro Police Provincial Office, highlighting the importance of strong collaboration between healthcare and law enforcement agencies in advancing the protection and welfare of women and children.

The presentation of training programs aims to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and capacity of Women in Uniform in responding to cases involving violence and abuse, while the renewed MOU reaffirms the commitment of both institutions to enhanced coordination, referral, and provision of timely and compassionate services to women and children in need of protection.

The Davao Regional Medical Center – Women and Children Protection Unit (DRMC WCPU), headed by Dr. Emilie D. Ugdang, proudly participated as invited speakers in the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Coordination Workshop for Mindanao Stakeholders: Ensuring Access to Health for Victims of Sexual Violence, held on August 25–27, 2026 at Acacia Hotel, Davao City.

Representing DRMC WCPU were Dr. Emilie D. Ugdang, Mary Frances B. Cerdana, RPsy, RPm, PCMS Jovy A. Vargas, and Jodelyn B. Tungal, RSW. The team shared their expertise and best practices in strengthening coordinated, survivor-centered, and trauma-informed healthcare services for victims of sexual violence.

This opportunity reflects DRMC WCPU's continued commitment to advocating for accessible, compassionate, and quality care for survivors through collaboration with key stakeholders across Mindanao.

The Davao Regional Medical Center – Women and Children Protection Unit (WCPU), headed by Dr. Emilie D. Ugdang, together with the dedicated WCPU staff, successfully conducted the Enhanced Training in Handling Abused Women and Children (The 4Rs: Recognizing, Recording, Reporting, and Referring) on August 5–7, 2026 at Habi Hotel, Koronadal City.

This three-day capacity-building initiative brought together healthcare professionals from across the SOCCSKSARGEN Region, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and trauma-informed approaches necessary to provide comprehensive, compassionate, and timely care for women and children who have experienced abuse and violence.

The training was made possible through the initiative of the Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) SOCCSKSARGEN, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the capacity of healthcare providers and enhancing the region's response to cases of violence against women and children. Together, we continue to build a safer, more responsive, and child- and survivor-centered healthcare system.

The Davao Regional Medical Center – Women and Children Protection Unit (DRMC WCPU), headed by Dr. Emilie D. Ugdang, together with the dedicated WCPU staff, successfully conducted a School Information Drive with the theme "aVIEWs and violENDs: Understanding Abuse and the Approach to End Violence" at Montevista Central Elementary School on July 24, 2026.

The activity aimed to educate pupils, teachers, and school personnel on recognizing different forms of abuse, promoting child protection, encouraging early reporting, and fostering a safe and supportive environment where every child can grow free from violence.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Principal Vilma B. Sangian, EdD, for warmly welcoming the DRMC WCPU and for allowing us to conduct this meaningful advocacy activity in your school. Your unwavering support and commitment to child protection are greatly appreciated.

We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the Chairperson of the Women Council, Ma'am Shiela Marie L. Basalo, RN, for gracing the event and delivering an inspiring opening message that emphasized the importance of community collaboration in protecting women and children from all forms of abuse and violence.

The Davao Regional Medical Center – Pink Haven, headed by Dr. Emilie D. Ugdang, proudly participated in the Multidisciplinary Team Training on Women and Children Protection for the BARMM Special Geographic Area, conducted by the Child Protection Network, headed by Dr. Bernadette Madrid, at Park Inn by Radisson, Davao City, from July 7–10, 2026.

Serving as resource speakers during the training were Dr. Emilie D. Ugdang, Dr. Nelda Beatriz Romana T. Chua, and PCMS Jovy A. Vargas, who delivered their assigned topics by sharing their expertise, practical experiences, and evidence-based approaches in the multidisciplinary management and protection of women and children. Their valuable contributions strengthened participants' knowledge and reinforced the importance of coordinated, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered care.

Through collaboration, capacity-building, and the exchange of knowledge, we continue to advance our shared commitment to providing quality, compassionate, and trauma-informed care for women and children across our communities.

Ugdang, in collaboration with the Office of the General Records, successfully conducted a Benchmarking Activity for participants from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The activity served as a valuable platform for knowledge-sharing, exchange of best practices, and strengthening institutional partnerships in the delivery of quality services for women and children.
