HINDI LAHAT NG PAKIKIPAGKITA AY PAKIKIPAG-ALYANSA.
I understand the disappointment over Mayor Leni Robredo meeting with Israeli Ambassador Dana Kursh. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a serious issue, and the Israeli government’s actions deserve scrutiny. But receiving an ambassador for a courtesy visit is not the same as endorsing the policies of the government she represents.
Leni did not become an EJK supporter when she made courtesy visits with the FPRRD. She did not become a loyalist when she received PBBM in Naga.
As Naga City Mayor, Leni has official responsibilities. Hindi porket nakipagkamay o nagpakuha ng litrato, sang-ayon na siya sa nangyayari sa Palestine. Diplomacy and political endorsement are two different things.
Mga Kakampink, I know how important it is for us to call Leni out whenever warranted. We should never give any politician a free pass, including those we admire and support. But please, let’s stop being political purists. Hindi lahat ng pakikipag-usap sa taong hindi natin gusto ay betrayal of our principles. We cannot demand inclusive leadership and, at the same time, condemn every interaction with people whose politics we oppose.
We should continue demanding accountability for human rights violations, including those committed in Gaza. And yes, Leni should be open to questions about her position, if she has one. But let’s judge her by her actual statements (if any), decisions, and actions, not by a photograph.
After all, standing firm on your principles does not require treating everyone you disagree with as an enemy.
