THE QUEEN OF SPORTS WRITING GRACES AIS HEADLINES LAC SESSION
AN-ANAAO INTEGRATED SCHOOL welcomed the Queen of Sports Writing, Ma’am Ria Teneza-Arthur, Principal I of Lourdes Zapata Elementary School, as the resource speaker for a Learning Action Cell (LAC) session on Sports Writing under the school’s journalism development program, HEADLINES.
The session aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of teachers in sports writing, one of the essential fields of campus journalism that captures the excitement of athletic competitions while highlighting the achievements, determination, and sportsmanship of student-athletes. Through the expertise of Ma’am Teneza-Arthur, the participants were given an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the craft and appreciate the important role of sports journalism in school publications.
Recognized as the Queen of Sports Writing in SDO Abra, Ma’am Teneza-Arthur shared her knowledge and experience in the field, providing valuable insights into the art of transforming sporting events into engaging, informative, and compelling stories. Her participation brought inspiration to the session as she imparted her expertise to educators committed to developing the journalistic capabilities of their learners.
Sports writing goes beyond reporting scores and identifying winners. It involves presenting the highlights of a game, describing the intensity of competition, recognizing the athletes’ dedication, and communicating the spirit of sportsmanship through accurate and vivid storytelling. With the guidance of an experienced practitioner, the LAC session served as a meaningful avenue for the participants to enhance their competence and explore ways to nurture the next generation of campus sports writers.
The activity formed part of AIS’s continuing efforts to strengthen its journalism program through HEADLINES, a school initiative designed to provide opportunities for learning, collaboration, and the development of journalistic skills. By conducting focused learning sessions in different areas of campus journalism, the school seeks to empower its teachers to guide learners in producing responsible, relevant, and quality journalistic outputs.
Meanwhile, Dr. Eugene P. Millare, Principal III of An-anaao Integrated School, expressed his sincere gratitude to Ma’am Teneza-Arthur for generously sharing her time, knowledge, and expertise with the AIS teaching personnel. He recognized the value of her contribution to the school’s professional learning activity and the continuing development of its journalism program.
The successful conduct of the session was also made possible through the commendable support of the host classroom, Grade 8 Sapphire, under the guidance of Ma’am Analyn. The class demonstrated excellent hosting by preparing the venue, organizing the necessary materials, and helping ensure that the session proceeded smoothly. Their cooperation, preparedness, and hospitality reflected the importance of teamwork and shared responsibility in making school activities successful.
The participation of Ma’am Teneza-Arthur, together with the leadership of the school administration and the support of Grade 8 Sapphire, made the LAC session a valuable learning experience for the AIS community.
As HEADLINES continues to provide meaningful opportunities for professional growth and journalistic development, AIS remains committed to cultivating a culture of excellence in campus journalism, one that inspires teachers and learners alike to tell stories with accuracy, creativity, integrity, and purpose.
With the Queen of Sports Writing sharing her expertise at AIS, the school’s journey toward developing more capable, confident, and responsible sports writers takes another significant stride forward.
