A total of β‚±2,369,505.51 in indemnity payments was released to 339 farmers in this agricultural town on September 30, providing compensation for farm losses and helping beneficiaries rebuild their livelihoods.

The assistance came at a critical time for farming families whose income and daily needs depend largely on the productivity of their fields.

For farmers, losing a crop means more than losing a harvest. It can also mean losing money already spent on seeds, fertilizer, labor and other farm inputs, while leaving families uncertain about how to finance the next planting season.

The indemnity payments provide the affected farmers with indemnity payment as they recover from their losses and prepare to resume their agricultural activities.

The distribution to the 339 beneficiaries brought the total assistance to more than β‚±2.3 million, providing an important boost to the local farming community.

Agricultural losses can have consequences that extend beyond individual farms. When farmers struggle to recover, their ability to purchase inputs, plant the next crop and maintain household income may also be affected. Timely indemnity payment can help ease some of these pressures and enable farmers to continue working their land.

For the beneficiaries in Sto. NiΓ±o, the distribution offered an opportunity to move forward after experiencing agricultural losses. The funds may help them replenish farm inputs, settle immediate expenses and prepare their fields for the next production cycle.

Additionally, the activity also highlights the importance of agricultural insurance and other risk-management mechanisms in protecting farmers from events that can disrupt production and threaten household livelihoods.

While the payment cannot erase the losses already experienced, it can provide farmers with resources to begin the recovery process.
In farming communities such as Sto. NiΓ±o, where agriculture remains closely tied to household income and local economic activity, helping farmers recover from losses is also an investment in the community's capacity to continue producing food and sustaining rural livelihoods.

For the 339 farmer-beneficiaries, the β‚±2.37-million indemnity payment represents more than financial assistance. It is support that can help them return to their fields, prepare for another planting season and continue the work that sustains their families.

A total of 253 farmers in Tuao and Piat, Cagayan received a combined β‚±1,772,231.65 in indemnity payments from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation -Regional Office No. 02 (PCIC-RO2) on September 29, providing much-needed financial assistance to farmers affected by covered agricultural losses.

In Tuao, 64 farmers received a total of β‚±502,858.73, while 189 farmers in Piat received β‚±1,269,372.92 in indemnity payments.

The distributions are intended to help insured farmers recover from losses sustained in their agricultural activities and provide them with financial support for the continuation of their livelihood.

The PCIC’s crop insurance program serves as a financial safety net for farmers, helping cushion the impact of crop losses caused by risks covered under their insurance policies.

For the beneficiaries in Tuao and Piat, the release of the indemnity payments provides an opportunity to recover from losses and regain their footing for the next cropping cycle.

The said activity underscores the importance of agricultural insurance in protecting the livelihood of farmers, whose income remains highly vulnerable to crop damage and other risks beyond their control.

PCIC-RO2 continues to provide crop insurance protection and indemnity assistance to eligible farmers in the Cagayan Valley region as part of efforts to strengthen the resilience of the agricultural sector.

PCIC UPDATES || PCIC, Sanchez Mira forge partnership to enhance Agricultural Insurance Programs

The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) Regional Office No. 2 and the Local Government Unit of Sanchez Mira, Cagayan signed a Memorandum of Agreement on September 23, 2026 to strengthen the implementation of agricultural insurance programs in the municipality.

The agreement was signed by RO2 Manager Mario G. Lumibao and Mayor Abraham B. Bagasin. The partnership aims to enhance the implementation of agricultural insurance programs through stronger coordination between PCIC and the LGU in beneficiary identification, information dissemination, enrollment, and claims assistance, ensuring that more farmers, fisherfolk, and farmworkers gain access to insurance protection.

Moreover, the Local Government Unit of Sanchez Mira will subsidize the insurance premium for PCIC's Agricultural Producers Protection Plan (AP3), subject to the availability of funds. Through this initiative, eligible farmworkers will gain access to insurance coverage that provides financial assistance in cases of accidents, permanent disability, dismemberment, or loss of life. The program aims to strengthen social protection for agricultural workers and help mitigate the financial burden on their families during unforeseen circumstances.

To further improve services for farmers, the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) Regional Management Group led by Senior Vice President Segundo H. Guerrero Jr., together with Engr. George Michael D. Soriano, Technical Assistant conducted ground truthing activities in selected areas of Cagayan and Isabela. The activity was supported by RO2 Manager Mario G. Lumibao and Insurance Adjuster Edmund G. Tiu.

Region 2 was chosen as the pilot area for this initiative which aims to help PCIC assess crop damage more quickly and accurately, making the processing of insurance claims faster and more efficient for affected farmers.

In Cagayan, the team visited the municipalities of Amulung, Solana, Sto. NiΓ±o and Tuguegarao City. Meanwhile, in Isabela, ground truthing activities were carried out in San Pablo, Cabagan and Sto. Tomas.

During the visits, PCIC personnel went directly to farms to validate field conditions and verify reports on crop damage. The team also utilized technologies such as the DOST-SINAG Virtual Hub and Google Earth Engine to support monitoring and assessment efforts in affected areas.

Through this project, PCIC hopes to make insurance claim processing faster and more responsive ensuring that farmers who experience losses due to drought, typhoons, floods and other agricultural risks can receive their indemnity payment sooner when they need them most.
