Additive manufacturing continues to reshape industrial design and production, offering flexible solutions for rapid prototyping, custom part fabrication, and equipment maintenance. Through the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCEN) Cagayan Valley, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Cagayan Valley works to bring these advanced technologies closer to local sectors, support regional innovation, and help businesses adapt to modern manufacturing standards.
To support this effort, AMCEN Cagayan Valley conducted a two-day Basic Operations Training on 3D Printing: Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF), designed to build fundamental competencies in additive manufacturing for local technical and engineering professionals.
The training brought together engineering and technical teams from key industry partners in the region, including ๐๐๐ง ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป and ๐๐ด๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ฝ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐๐๐ฟ๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป (๐๐ ๐๐). The initiative focused on helping these partners understand how 3D printing can be integrated into their design, repair, and manufacturing workflows.
The sessions were facilitated by AMCEN Cagayan Valleyโs technical team:
Neil dela Cruz, Science Research Specialist II
Engr. Niko Tabangin, Science Research Specialist I
Manoling Lagasca, Project Technical Assistant II
On the first day, participants were introduced to the core concepts of Fused Filament Fabrication. The modules covered essential topics including 3D printer anatomy, material selection, slicer software navigation, and standard operational protocols.
The second day focused on hands-on application, giving participants direct experience in calibrating machines, preparing 3D models for printing, executing print jobs, and troubleshooting common print issues. This practical engagement provided the teams with the confidence and skills needed to operate FDM 3D printers independently.
By connecting scientific resources with industrial needs, AMCEN Cagayan Valley aims to strengthen partnerships with local enterprises and expand technical capabilities across the region. This training forms part of DOST Cagayan Valleyโs broader effort to promote technology transfer, support local machinery and construction sectors, and encourage innovative approaches to regional development.
