As National Breastfeeding Month comes to a close, the support for proper infant and young child feeding must continue.

From 6 months onward, children need both continued breastfeeding and appropriate complementary foods to meet their growing nutrition needs. Breast milk continues to provide valuable energy, nutrients, and protection, while complementary foods provide the additional nutrients needed for growth and development.

Families and caregivers can support young children by providing varied, nutritious, locally available foods, practicing safe and responsive feeding, and continuing breastfeeding up to 2 years and beyond.
