: Another shaking felt in Surigao City

A Magnitude 6.9 earthquake was recorded off Manay, Davao Oriental at 7:12 PM today, October 10, 2025, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The quake was felt at Intensity IV in Surigao del Norte and nearby areas.

Residents are reminded to stay calm, stay alert, and follow official advisories from PHIVOLCS and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

The City of Surigao will extend ₱300,000 in financial assistance to the City of Bogo, Cebu, to help cover the burial expenses of the victims.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod led by Vice Mayor Alfonso S. Casurra, approved the request of Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II during its 35th Regular Session today, October 2, 2025. The resolution authorizes the City Mayor to release the said amount as a gesture of solidarity and support to the people of Bogo City.

Bogo City was among the hardest hit by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck northern Cebu on September 30, 2025, leaving dozens dead, hundreds injured, and many families displaced.

Mayor Paul Dumlao, the City Government of Surigao, and the People of Surigao reaffirm the spirit of bayanihan by standing with Bogo City in their time of grief.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: In consonance to the marching order of the Commander Coast Guard District Northeastern Mindanao Commodore Dennis Rem C Labay PCG, the Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte headed by the Station Commander Ensign Roy Christopher R Orillaneda PCG promptly undertook significant measures in preparation for the possible effects of Severe Tropical Storm “Opong” affecting the area of reaponsibility.

Deployable Response Groups (DRG) within the jurisdiction of Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte were instantly activated and all units were placed in a heightened alert status in order to ensure maximum personnel readiness for possible response operations.

Thereafter, Sub-Stations and Mobile Team simultaneously distributed flyers dubbed as “Mga Paalala sa mga Mangingisda sa Panahon ng Bagyo” to disseminate information with regards to the prevailing weather disturbance.

Likewise, simultaneous patrol operations at the shoreline of respective areas of responsibility were conducted by the Station’s sub-units purposely to likewise disseminate to the coastal residents and fisherfolks the prevailing weather disturbance.

Further, all units within the Station were directed to conduct close coordination with their respective Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) offices for possible augmentation and deployment.

As a precautionary measure of the Station to ensure safety of life and property at sea, Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte had published a Coast Guard Public Advisory which informs the general public for the presence of weather disturbance and advises the different concerned sectors and fishermen to strictly adhere the provisions stated in the published Coast Guard Public Advisory. Furthermore, the Station likewise temporarily suspends voyages of all vessels/watercrafts of any type or tonnage plying from mainland Surigao del Norte bound for areas with hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) 1 and 2.

As of this press time, all units under the Station are continuously monitoring the updates from the official page of PAGASA as well as continuously conducting actual assessment of weather and sea condition within the respective areas of responsibility.

Ensign Orillaneda urged the general populace to be extra vigilant at all times and strictly adhere to the advisories of the competent authorities in order to avoid occurrence of any maritime related incidents.
