PENRO Cagayan joins the Celebration of World Bamboo Day

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office Cagayan, together with its Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices, joins the simultaneous bamboo planting activity on September 17-18, 2021 in celebration of World Bamboo Day with the theme: “Alay ng Bayan sa Inang Kalikasan, Kawayan.”

The event features the celebration of Bamboo Month which serves as an avenue to promote planting of bamboo to conserve natural resources and the environment, as well as cultivation of bamboo for new sustainable industries and traditional purposes for economic development.

A total of 1,928 bamboo propagules were planted along the Cagayan River and its tributaries in various bamboo plantation sites.

The event was spearheaded by PENR Officer Atty. Ismael T. Manaligod and participated by different government and private sectors such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Sanjera Capanikian Farmers Association, Solana Motorcycle and Bikers Association, MLGU and BLGU officials, Sangguniang Kabataan, and residents.

This celebration also marks the beginning of bamboo planting initiatives in the 585-hectare bamboo plantation establishment along riverbanks in Cagayan as part of the Cagayan River Restoration Project under the Build Back Better Program.

In addition to the bamboo plantations, the office shall also undertake planting of indigenous species for riverbank protection.
