Empowering Youth for a Brighter Future!

Earlier today, October 9, 2026, the City Population Development Office (PopDev), headed by Ma’am Jonalyn G. Kiser, proudly joined Laya Integrated School for a impactful half-day symposium at the JHS Open Gymnasium. Centered on the theme "Comprehensive Seminar on Environmental Action, Reproductive Wellness, and Mental Health Resilience," the event aimed to equip students with essential knowledge for their personal growth and well-being.

The program commenced at around 7:30 AM with an opening prayer, followed by warm welcoming remarks from School Principal Petronila G. Buslig. This meaningful activity was successfully organized through the coordination of Ma’am Kirolin B. De Jesus.

Our dedicated PopDev resource speakers delivered engaging and educational sessions throughout the morning:

Introduction to PopDev & Overview of Adolescent Health
Ma’am Debbie Jane Dawayan opened the lecture series by introducing the core roles and services of the City Population Development Office. She set the stage with a comprehensive overview of teenage pregnancy, adolescent health and development, and general reproductive wellness.

Understanding Body Changes & STI Awareness
Ma’am Marisol Sonia D. Alias took a deeper dive into Adolescent Health, discussing the physical and biological changes teenagers experience as they grow. She also highlighted key awareness and prevention measures regarding Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).

Addressing Teenage Pregnancy & Empowering Youth Potential
Sir Chris Mark T. Cayaba shared an intricate and insightful presentation on teenage pregnancy. He presented crucial data showing that while numbers have been decreasing, the situation remains a critical priority. The goal of the Commission on Population and Development remains zero teenage pregnancy, ensuring that young individuals can fully focus on their education and personal growth. Sir Chris encouraged students to refrain from engaging in early relationships and instead focus on discovering themselves, building essential skills, honing their learning, and actively participating in extracurricular activities.

The symposium concluded with the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to the speakers, handed by Principal Petronila G. Buslig and Ma’am Kirolin B. De Jesus, acknowledging PopDev's commitment to youth empowerment.

Heartfelt thanks to the faculty, staff, and students of Laya Integrated School for a warm reception and a successful event! Together, let us continue guiding our youth toward healthy, informed, and resilient futures.

Yesterday, September 30, 2026, the open gymnasium of Kalinga National High School buzzed with energy and learning as around 500 Grade 12 students (representing all 13 sections) alongside their dedicated class advisors gathered for a vital half-day learning session.

Initiated by the school principal, Ma’am Avelina P. Trinidad, the symposium aimed to address rising concerns on adolescent reproductive health, equip young people with factual information, and foster supportive environments that encourage responsible decision-making.

Anchored on the theme, “HER CHOICE, HER FUTURE: Understanding Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention,” the program unfolded smoothly from start to finish. The event commenced with a National Anthem by one the students, followed by a solemn prayer that set a reflective tone for the day. Sir Rowell C. Bustillo then delivered inspiring welcome remarks on behalf of Principal Trinidad, emphasizing the significance of the gathering, which was followed by School Nurse Ma’am Jane Michelle A. Banganan introducing our esteemed guest resource speaker. The core of the symposium featured an eye-opening and comprehensive talk by Ma’am Alpha June T. Gabel from the City Population Development Office (PopDev). She tackled crucial topics such as adolescent health awareness, pregnancy prevention, the realities and challenges of teenage parenting, and eye-opening city data concerning adolescents aged 10 to 19. Furthermore, she thoroughly detailed various sexually transmitted infections (STIs), how they are acquired, their physical impacts, and the associated health risks. To cap off the meaningful event, School Counselor Associate Ma’am Alyssa May L. Lumawig delivered a closing remark, which was immediately followed by the awarding of certificates of appreciation to Ma’am Alpha June T. Gabel as the main resource speaker and to Sir Chris Mark T. Cayaba for his invaluable assistance throughout the program.

Kalinga National High School remains steadfast in guiding their learners toward making informed choices, protecting their health, and securing their future!
