Exploring the Challenges of Slaughterhouse Work

Staff from the Slaughterhouse Unit, headed by Dr. Eduardo Jose T. Manuel, Jr., together with Christian Renz Jacob and Aljon Reyes, met on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, with BS Psychology students of National University–Fairview.

The discussion focused on the students’ thesis entitled “Slaughterers’ Tenure: A Cross-Analysis of Aggression and Empathy among Slaughterers in the National Capital Region.” The study examines the challenges of slaughterhouse work and how workers manage their emotions while performing physically and emotionally demanding tasks.

During the meeting, the students expressed their interest in collaborating with the office and formally sought its assistance and support in the conduct of their thesis. The engagement also aimed to raise awareness on mental health services, help break stigma surrounding mental health concerns, and provide valuable inputs that may guide future interventions for the well-being of slaughterhouse workers.
