Kinilala ang Local Government Unit (LGU) ng Bato bilang 2026 Best Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Community in the Province of Catanduanes at 2026 Best CEST Community in Sustainable Circular Economy.

Ang pagkilalang ito ay patunay sa patuloy na pagsisikap ng LGU Bato na gamitin ang Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) bilang instrumento sa pagpapaunlad ng komunidad. Kabilang dito ang mga inisyatiba at proyektong naglalayong mapabuti ang kabuhayan, mapangalagaan ang kapaligiran, at maisulong ang isang mas sustainable at circular na ekonomiya sa lokalidad.

Ang dalawang parangal ay nagsisilbing pagkilala sa sama-samang pagsisikap ng lokal na pamahalaan, mga katuwang na ahensya, organisasyon, at higit sa lahat, ng mga mamamayan ng Bato sa pagsusulong ng isang mas maunlad, makakalikasan, at makabagong komunidad.

Nakipag-courtesy visit ang DOST Catanduanes sa bagong halal na Punong Bayan ng Bato, Hon. Princess Vanessa A. Rodriguez, noong 01 Oktubre 2026 upang talakayin ang mga kasalukuyang programa, proyekto, at inisyatiba ng DOST sa bayan ng Bato, partikular ang Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program at ang bagong CEST 2.0 framework.

Pinangunahan ni Provincial Director Engr. Marie Grace T. Molina, kasama si Project Technical Assistant I Mr. Matthew T. Olapani, ang pagbisita na naglalayong mapalakas ang ugnayan at koordinasyon sa pagitan ng DOST Catanduanes at Lokal na Pamahalaan ng Bato. Tinalakay rin ang mga kasalukuyang proyekto ng CEST sa munisipalidad, gayundin ang mga posibleng programa at plano para sa patuloy na pagtutulungan tungo sa pag-unlad ng komunidad.

Kasabay ng courtesy visit ang pagkakaloob ng dalawang pagkilala sa LGU Bato bilang 2026 Best CEST Community in the Province of Catanduanes at 2026 Best CEST Community in Sustainable Circular Economy.

Ang mga parangal ay iginawad sa katatapos na Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) 2026, na ginanap noong 19–21 Agosto 2026 sa Daet, Camarines Norte, bilang pagkilala sa mga inisyatiba at proyekto ng LGU Bato sa pagpapaunlad ng komunidad sa pamamagitan ng Science, Technology, and Innovation.

In line with Memorandum Circular No. 136 released by the Office of the President, the DOST-Bicol Regional Office and all its Provincial Science and Technology Offices (PSTOs) will implement an early dismissal of work today, September 28, 2026, at 1:00 PM, in observance of Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day.

A major side activity of the 2nd GATES Program Stakeholder Conference happening in November 2026, the 𝗚𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 challenges DOST System personnel and eligible DOST-SEI scholars to develop innovative geospatial technology solutions using the GATES Lakehouse, datasets, and tools to address operational challenges and pain points within the DOST System or explore uncharted territories for geospatial innovation.

The Hackathon will be conducted in phases from September to November 2026, culminating in the 2nd GATES Program Stakeholder Conference, where finalist teams will present their solutions and the winning entries will be recognized during the awarding ceremony.
